Can someone tell me more about what this does?

I have searched the forums but only find the short release blog and people asking how to turn it on.

Once turned on does it work for the previous library or only newly added items?

What does it do exactly?

Cheers

I too would like more information on this.

"...the server will be able to further optimize transcoding by encouraging video stream copying whenever possible" - exerpt from release notes

What? Does that mean it can switch to direct stream if it doesn't have to transcode between two keyframes or chapters? How does this setting help? Even with it on, Emby can't retrieve media info for several of my files. Popular releases, even.

I see these in the log:

2015-11-02 04:38:24.3688 Info - MediaEncoder: Keyframe extraction took 457,6695558 seconds

2015-11-02 04:38:27.3630 Info - MediaEncoder: Keyframe extraction took 7,2234131 seconds

2015-11-02 04:48:48.9407 Info - MediaEncoder: Keyframe extraction took 619,3576353 seconds

2015-11-02 04:51:37.9694 Info - MediaEncoder: Keyframe extraction took 792,8726013 seconds

Almost 800 seconds for one of them, granted it IS a 7gb .ts file. Is it worth it?

Without this on, a scan finishes in a minute or two. With it on, it can take anything between 2 and unlimited minutes to complete, depending on how much new content is there.

It also seems to want to update this data for several releases which it has already succeeded or failed to do it for in the past, even when no changes have been done to the files.
