A number of TV Shows not extracting chapter images

I've got a small number of shows that will not extract chapter images.  Thats for all of the episodes within complete shows (not just random episodes within a show/season).  I've got the channel downloader, I do a library scan, I manually run the extraction task and it works as most of my shows are fine, but a few of them will not get any chapter images.  FWIW, these auto-organize just fine and all other metadata is attached perfectly...just no chapter images...

And what else is different about those shows?  Different video file format or codec perhaps?

Identical as far as I can tell.

One of the shows that works:

Do all the ones that don't work have subs and the ones that do don't?

That's kinda a longshot but I'm just looking for any common elements.

Your log should state failed chapter extraction.  A log with this happening would be useful.

No problem...as far as submitting a log, is simply the most recent server log file sufficient or should I delete that one and have another log run during a chapter image extraction session?

I think the overseas that failed are missing the runtime. You need to capture an example when it is first added to the library, as well as the task log.

In the meantime you could try refreshing the titles that are missing them

OKay, you mean refresh within the metadata manager?  I do that and it does nothing...

What do you mean by overseas?

And it makes sense if the runtime is missing that it would be unable to capture chapter images...how can I check that property of the file?

When I compare 2 files within windows explorer file properties, all files show an accurate video length (under "details" after-right-clicking the media files.

And where do I get this task log?  I only get server and transcode logs...

OK, maybe I'm confused...but you mean within the Emby web client?  If so than the file shows accurate runtimes

ok if it has a runtime then that's all you can do. sometimes ffmpeg will fail to extract chapters for some files, it's not uncommon.

interesting....so that's the answer?  Well, its not a huge deal and most of emby works fine...just would be nice to be able to figure out why something is broken...

Well, I was doing some rummaging around in my server setup for emby and noticed that I actually have quite a few shows that are doing this...maybe around 30-40% of them.  I recently migrated over to an SSD for OS and I can'tbe certain, but I could swear some of these shows had chapter images before...

...is there some possiblity that somehow emby "lost" the link to the folder where the chapters images are stored?  I can navigate to that folder, but there are so many and they are not stored in a format where I can search for a particular show to see if they are stored there so it's difficult for me to see if this is a possiblity.

I might be way off here...just throwing ideas out there...

OK, found something on this issue that might be worth noting...

On a hunch, I started doing some searching in the folders that store the chapter images and nailed down when images of a particular episode that was missing its images would have been extracted...

Well, turns out, I found a folder that contains the extracted images to an episode that is missing it images within emby.  It seems that emby DID at some point actually extracting them but somehow, for certain entire shows, loses the link to the folder and will not show up within emby.  What I've found is, if the images are missing from an episode than it's missing from the entire show. so somehow, the link to the show from emby is broken...

Doing a refresh, library scan, or server restart doesn't do anything.

Not a fix, but maybe this is something we can work with?

And if you delete the folder and perform chapter extraction or library scan, does the same thing happen?

OK, I just tried to delete the folder of one of the episodes that has images in MediaArt Storage, but not linked into emby, re-ran a library scan as well as a chapter image extraction.

No change, however.  There is no new folder in either a new location or in the old location with cahpter images extracted and still nothing in emby.

So it looks like a few shows did at some point have their images extracted, but emby has since lost the connection or link between those shows and what is populating in emby.  And if the folder is deleted and rerun, it now no longer extracts the images for those shows.

Its curious that an entire show (in my case one of the shows is "The Wire") has no chapter images linked for any episode regardless of season, but emby stores the chapter image folders in chronological order...so there is no "common" folder that emby stores images for a particuolar show.  I was thinking emby somehow lost a link to a parent folder relating to that show but there is no common thread as it relates to where these images are stored.  They are simply done in chronological order of all media within the library...

Found that the url link to the missing images is defaulting to the no-image clip art despite the chapter image folder existing:
