Stutter when streaming or issue with shared drives?

I have come to recognize that some of my files play directly from the network disk whence they're located but other files are steaming. Streaming files stutter or don't even play at all. I have an inkling that this may be an issue with shared drives not being shared but am not 100% sure. I try to access these shared drives directly and get an error. Why would some drives share ant others not share? Is there a guide somewhere that I need to read about sharing drives? I don't have a server per se but just a bunch of drives. This was all working quite well on my previous HTPC but when I moved it gave up the ghost and I had to change to an Acer RT-AC68U router to make my wife happy with her iDevices which wouldn't properly connect to my Buffalo router with DD-WRT.

For reference I have the EmBy configurator set to play all but ISO using MPC-HC with MadVR as my video renderer and LAV as my filters.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

Why would some drives share and others not share? I have done all that and merely shared to the Everyone group and the Home Group. Some drives are working correctly and others are not. I am using the root of the drive followed by the $. Maybe something in the way it is set up in the EmBy Server but I'm not sure. It recognizes the file in the UI but plays back with MPC-HC with a long string name as opposed to merely the path name. This makes me think it is transcoding and then streaming over the internet even though it is on the local wired gig network. Maybe a simple re-boot is in order to get the drives recognized on the network?

It isn't streaming over the internet but it is transcoding and streaming it from the server.  This will only happen if it was not able to access the path directly.

It could be any number of problems from a naming issue to permissions.

Thanks again for that quick reply!!! I'll keep working on it after reading your instructions more closely but I'll re-boot first! That seems to clear up a lot of things.
