That error is because it's a popular download and has exceeded the accounts bandwidth. Hopefully, for Emby Classic fans, will get hosted elsewhere. This is exciting.

If anybody that has installed/used this on Windows 10 can answer a few questions, please.

1. Does Emby work on this version of WMC?

2. Does the TV functionality work (specifically TV guide downloading etc)?

Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend it. there is no guide data and the tv setup does not work. the windows decoder does not work either. i installed lav decoders and got video but then it crashed if i tried to rewind. If you have a cablecard protected content wouldnt work. if you want to use wmc it is best to stick with win 8.1.

I do not have Live TV functionality so I cannot answer #2, but I can provide answers to #1.

I downloaded and installed per the instructions.  Pretty straightforward.  Just follow the instructions.

Ran Media Center first before downloading Emby and went through the normal Media Center setup screen.  Everything worked as it should.  The only setup I did not test was with Live TV as I do not run a cablecard or OTA recording.

I installed Emby for WMC and did not run into any issues there either.

Emby, for me, works just as it should on this setup.  Feels just like it does on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.  Chocolate feels really smooth.  Square theme (my normal theme) works like it normally does.  Installing plugins from within Emby for WMC works as well.

I installed LAV and do not have the issues that Deihmos spoke of.  I can rewind and fast-forward without crashes.

This is pretty exciting.  I am holding off on upgrading my main Media Center for now as there is still have quite a few months left for the free upgrade on that.  Will keep running this on my regular PC to see if anything crops up, but so far so good.

The download comes with an uninstaller, just make sure you have a good backup just in case.

Rewind and ff live tv. I don't use emby in wmc. WMC is only good at live tv.

OK, this sounds very interesting - I only use WMC for Emby, I have no use for live TV at all, so this looks like it's a perfect solution for me.

I was on the Windows 10 forums and the latest buzz is an article about an unofficial version of Media Center for Windows 10.

Though I could not get it to install on my Virtual disc version of Windows 10 using VMWare's Player.  Many from the forums posted screenshots as swear it is legit. So I thought I would pass on the link to people here.  Now I have decided to update one of my laptops and try it

here is the link

Enjoy, hope it works for people

Tried this today but it did not work for me.

The installer gives these errors and at the end no WMC.

Is there something I need to do also to get this working?

Didnt work for me but I did remove a few media related folders and bits recently and run ccleaner to do a cleanup so I wonder if that could of removed any traces of files or registry that are still needed to run the hack??? Doing a clean install on another pc currently and will give that a try when I get windows 10 on it.

Did you select 'Run As Administrator' from the context menu when you right-click on the file?  'Access Denied' sounds like permissions.

@gjviii Did you try downloading/installing .Net first via 'Turn Windows features on or off' panel from 'Programs and Features' in the control panel? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HhJaUOwb20 or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xo-l-iwdD5Q

I did -Thank you.   I grabbed a win10 image from work to test installing media center.  i'm guessing my team has these images locked down so normal users cant make any changes to them since they are on our network.  i'll hand it off to them tomorrow and see what they need to do to install it.   i'll update if it wasn't something they did to the image

Yes I did. I have now installed all Net Frameworks but still the access denied error. Turned off UAC completely and will test that after I have restarted my PC. I don't know to what folder the file copy should be but  I guess C:\Windows\ehome?

Turning off UAC didn't help either so it won't work for me yet.

The error comes after this line in the installer file.

%windir%\system32\dism.exe /Quiet /Apply-Image /ImageFile:MediaCenter.wim /Index:1 /ApplyDir:%SystemDrive%\

Error: 5

access denied

@overseer

We'll it appears that my team didn't do anything to the image. I was however able to install .net using dism

All is working great now.

Here is a link if needed

http://winaero.com/blog/offline-install-of-net-framework-3-5-in-windows-10-using-dism/

Thanks

That is good to hear. Hopefully Emby is working as well.

Big update coming in November for Win10, we'll see if that breaks anything for WMC. Will have to get this running on my PC that is on the fast ring for builds for testing.
