Can't add HDHomeRun (HDHR3-US)?

I'm brand new to Emby and starting to like it over Plex. I have an older HDHomeRun (HDHR3-US) and when I try to add it via IP, I get "There was an error saving the TV provider. Please ensure it is accessible and try again.".

I get this error:

2015-09-04 13:28:38.1017 Error - HttpServer: Error processing request for /LiveTv/TunerHosts
        *** Error Report ***
        Version: 3.0.5724.3
        Command line: /usr/lib/emby-server/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe -programdata /var/lib/emby-server -restartpath /usr/lib/emby-server/restart.sh
        Operating system: Unix 3.19.0.15
        Processor count: 4
        64-Bit OS: True
        64-Bit Process: True
        Program data path: /var/lib/emby-server
        Mono: 4.0.3 (Stable 4.0.3.20/d6946b4 Thu Aug 13 12:28:09 UTC 2015)
        Application Path: /usr/lib/emby-server/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe
The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found.
        ServiceStack.HttpError
        No Stack Trace Available

The tuner is running and ensured I have the right IP.

Is mine too old to be used with Emby? Thanks.

You need one of the DLNA models to use it directly.  Otherwise, you need to add it through the "Other..." option.

I've seen this advice on dealing with the HDHR3-US elsewhere, nearly verbatim, but I don't really understand what it means. Where exactly is this "Other..." option? Is it really that simple? I tried adding an "other" tuner and it said to check External Services, but I have no idea what they are and if all I need is the plugin listed--and hey, which one, besides?--or if there's another server component required for those plugins, etc.

I would really appreciate a more thorough explanation of the steps, if possible...? I've tried a lot of combinations of things, but I've gotten nowhere so far.

Thanks in advance!

have you tried clicking the help button on the page?

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Live%20TV

Yes. That only describes what I've already tried.

When I choose Tuners/Add/Other, I only get a message "For additional Live TV providers, click on the External Services tab to see the available options."  No way to add my HDHR3-US from there directly, apparently. I then try External Services, and it's a rabbit hole of options for me as I previously mentioned.

Each plugin is managed by it's own developer and its up to them to document what is supported and what's not. we're working to add native support for more tuners so that plugins aren't required, but that will take time. in the meantime, the plugins can handle supporting just about any kind of tuner.

You will have to use a plugin with your tuner. Until emby can't support more models, it's your only option. I use serverwmc very successfully. My prime is a dlna version and I'm still sticking with serverwmc. Mainly because of the guide coming without any subscription cost but also because I'm happy with that plugin.

I totally understand that; I guess I was hoping for other HDHR3-US users to chime in here with what they've done and what works (or doesn't) for them. Thanks.

It's not a Prime, which is part of the problem. It's an older HDHR3-US that doesn't have DLNA support, but apparently CAN work in Emby with the right combination of supporting software/plugins. I'm merely trying to determine what that magical combination of extras is.

Thanks for your reply. :)

i am guessing they all will support your tuner. I'm not sure you actually read the whole help page, but the most important thing to keep in mind is this

Please note that each plugin depends on a standalone application of the same name. For example, the ServerWMC plugin for Emby also requires the standalone ServerWMC application.

I'm going through the different ones now. That said, I still don't have a clue why I'd choose one over another. I just know I need to replace WMC soon.

I've been stuck on WMC for a LONG time, where everything just worked. I really want to move away from it so I can move to Windows 10, but it's proving more difficult than I thought it would be.... so far.

Again, thanks.

I think one thing we have all taken for granted is the ability to just take an old computer and re-purpose it.  No expense and costing only time.  Your interested in trying to get ready for the next wave of TV and home theatre, at some point there is going to be some expense. Eventually you need to upgrade.  You are getting Windows 10 for free, but in 11 months you wont so somewhere some time, there will be an expense.  Maybe that expense can be a new SD Prime that can do DLNA.  Or keep you existing PC, pair it with ServerWMC and dedicate that to be your server.  Then buy or repurpose another device for Windows 10.  Eventually, you'll have to spend some money somewhere.  You just need to figure out where.
