Hi there

Have been looking for the right media server for a while and I think this is the one for me.

Couple of questions as I cannot seem to find the answers on here:

1. I run a physical server box at home and the host OS is Ubuntu. I then run Windows 7 as a virtual machine on there and have installed Emby onto this Windows 7 VM. On this Windows 7 VM i map to the shared folders on the Ubunu box. When I try and use these locations to setup the library it will not work, no matter what I try ie I click on network and browse etc and it shows nothing, if I type it in manually it just disappears and wants me to put something else in there. Using Samba on the Ubuntu box by the way. Does the Emby server need to be on the host OS with direct access to the drives?

2. I have a non-smart tv, and for playing media I usually use my Popcorn Hour media player. Is it possible to use this device with Emby and I do not seem to see an App for it.

Thanks very much in advance.

No, the server doesn't have to be on the same machine as the media.

Make sure that you can access that location with an explorer window in the same VM.  Then use whatever format that requires.  Be sure all permissions are proper.

Cheers guys, managed to get the library working, had to reboot the VM and also Linux, weird but who cares, it works :-)

Vidman, I don't quite understand how to use the DLNA profile?

I have set the DLNA profile as Popcorn Hour and my Popcorn Hour is on the same subnet etc, I can browse the server etc but under devices on the Emby Server it doesn't show up?

Am I missing something?

Cheers

Edit: OIC I just realized, I can happily play movies from my server by browsing the network from my Popcorn Hour, is this all DLNA is ie I just see the movie names etc.

I want to be able to see the full EMBY posters/pics of movies etc on my TV, synopsis etc

How can I achieve this with my Popcorn Hour A-300?

I can do it with its inbuilt NMJ but it is basically crap.

Cheers

Yes, that's what DLNA is.  How rich the presentation is depends on the implementation on each individual device.

Since we don't have an actual app for that device that is the best you can do directly on it.

However, there are a number of other options to get the content onto your TV (Chromecast, something like a Nexus Player or Fire TV, or, possibly just sending it straight to your TV from the app/web client on your phone or tablet if your TV can support DLNA).
