Multiple Episode Listing

Hi All,

Plugin is great, I am still tossing up between using the native app and Kodi, with the Emby plugin on my Nexus Player, both seem to have pro's. I am a long time Kodi user so it seems to be getting more love at the moment. One problem I noticed last night, with both, is with the episode numbers on double episodes.

My example is The Killing Season 2 Episode 1 & 2, which is a double episode.

On the Server Web interface, and using the Android App on my phone I see both episode numbers, and both titles. Like so;

S2, E1-2, Reflections, My Lucky Day

S2, E3 - Numb

On Kodi using the Emby Plugin, It shows just the first episode but both titles. in TV after going into the show then the season. I get

1. Reflections, My Lucky Day

3. Numb

This is a little confusion, nothing makes it obvious that it is a double episode, and at first I thought I was missing episode 2 as the next one was ep 3, I looked at my files and realised it was a double, then checked the web interface.

Is there a plan to support double episode numbering with the plugin, or is there a setting I am missing? I am currently using the stable version of the plugin, not the beta.

Thanks,

Wob

I have found in general Emby Server doesn't handle files with multiple episodes in them very well at all, @@Luke the server developer said it was on the list to be looked at, not sure if this has been done yet or not?

Here was one of the threads I started on the topic.

I had a similar thing with one of my TV Shows recently I thought I had a missing episode at first, until I realised it was a double episode.

Thanks for the info, Emby does seem to be storing the meta data, as the episodes view fine on the web, hopefully the kodi app will be updated at some point to pull the data.

I've been looking into how Kodi handles it and they just create a duplicate episode with the secondary episode number. However, it does bring other issues like playing the same episode twice in a row. I think our only option would be to modify the title of the episode itself to include the second episode number.

So far, it's not looking good... but will keep you updated if I find anything interesting. We aim to duplicate emby library, and emby doesn't have an additional entry for those multi episodes...

I would love to see this worked out as I have stopped using the Trakt plugin in emby in favor of the trakt plugin in kodi. Trakt in kodi is so much more reliable except in this instance.

Thanks for looking into it, it's a minor bug bear for me, every now an then I think I am missing an episode. If you do manage to find a solution it would be great.

Has this been fixed?

I know I used to have the same problem, with multi episode shows (e.g - Annoying.Childrens.Show.S01E01E02.avi) always playing the same episode twice in a row on Kodi.

But just trying it now and it seems to work properly - not sure if this is something to do with using Emby or that I'm running the latest version of Kodi. Either way, it doesnt seem to repeat anymore thankfully!

Nothing has been done.

This thread was to request making multi episode entries in Kodi.

But because this would cause Kodi to play the same file multiple times, I have decided to not to do anything.

Since Emby only creates one entry for those multi episodes, that is what's imported into Kodi.

Hi

Doing this at least would certainly help, if the title reflected that it was a double episode.

Thanks

Episode: s01e01e02

In Kodi, display like? (after the 1x1):

1- 1x1.e02 Title
2- 1x1.Title (e02)
3- 1x1.e02.Title

Which is better?

Hi

Native Kodi shows

1x01 Episode Title

1x02 Episode Title

1x03 Episode Title

etc

I guess you would need to add x02 and its episode title some where?

Would it be like

1x01-x02 Episode 1 Title - Episode 2 Title

And what of the synopsis ? Would the Episode 1 and Episode 2 synopsis if different be merged together and added to the synopsis for the one episode entry ?

Obviously in native Kodi because there are two episode entries each can have their own synopsis.

Agree that having the 2 in there somewhere at the front would be better, looks a bit odd at the moment just skipping from

1x01. Episode Title 1, Episode Title 2

1x03

1x05

when you have a bunch of double episodes in the folder..

having

1x01-1x02. Episode Title 1, Episode Title 2

works well i think.

Here is an example to work with.

Extant

Season 2

Episode 6 - You Say You Want an Evolution

TheTVDB entry for episode 6 here

Episode 7 - The Other

TheTVDB entry for episode 7 here

Currently in Kodi with Emby it looks like this, you can see the episode title does have the name of both episodes showing already e.g.

You Say You Want an Evolution, The Other

565d6884dcec1_KEExtant1.png

Not sure where its picked that up from? Here is how the single video file looks like on the file server.

565d68fcbe016_ExtantFiles.png

If I press INFO on this episode in Kodi to look at the synopsis I see this and its only displaying the synopsis for episode 7.

565d694eb7c80_KEExtant2.png

Its the same in the Emby web GUI only the synopsis for Episode 7 is displayed and the synopsis for Episode 6 is not seen.

EDIT: Actually looking closer it does appear to be working and both synopsis are present for each episode.

565d69fb37a1d_ExtantEmbyWebGUI.png

In native Kodi / MYSQL we have two episodes entries listed for the two episodes, however each entry in the episode title area shows the title of both episodes. e.g.

You Say You Want an Evolution | The Other

And as Angel stated if you play episode 7 it starts the Extant - S02E06-E07 - You Say You Want an Evolution - The Other.mp4 file from the beginning.

565d6aa1739fa_NativeExtant1.png

Regarding the synopsis in native Kodi / MYSQL each episode entry shows both the synopsis for Episode 6 and Episode 7

Episode 6 -

565d6bfc1fe43_NativeExtant2.png

Episode 7 -

565d6d59dd3cf_NativeExtant3.png

Its certainly a tricky one this one and without the Emby server pulling in both synopsis, Kodi is only ever going to show one synopsis and not both. Think @@Luke might need to be involved as well.

Hope this information helps, good luck !

Yeah, the synopsis part I can't do anything about. It would require a change to the server behavior for multi episodes.

For now, the best I can do is modify the title to reflect:

1x01 02 Title | Title2

1x01 02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3

Does that work?

I think 1x01-1x02 Title | Title2

I think having the full number and the dash and the x makes it easier to understand and follows the same format that's already there...otherwise 1x01 02 Title | Title2  could be read as being episode 102.. (one hundred and two)

Guess it comes down to personal preference though! :)

I understand what you are saying. But each skin display their episode a certain way. For example, in aeon nox, it displays like this (no x):

I just wanted to display triple episode as a test

With a double episode it looks like, I could maybe add a separator?:

Edit: With separator:

I would recommend this way if possible.

1x01-02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3

If you can put a dash in between the 01 and 02 etc that stops it looking a bit like 102

The '1.' or '1x01' is not under our control, we can only add text to the title to make it LOOK right.  Different skins have different formats, so we need to pre-pend the title with something that looks good regardless of skin.

In my setup, that would look weird because it would be 1x01. -02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3

I was also thinking we could instead display the range like emby does? What if an episode has more than 4 parts? This way we only display First-Last, like so:

1x01.-04 | Title, Title2, Title3, Title4

565e3092cd95e_multiepisode3.png

Anyway, you see how complicated this is. I didn't notice that skin displayed episode numbers differently, until I jumped into finding a solution previously. I couldn't find a way to make it look "good". :)

Edit: With a closing bracket instead?

Ehhhh I don't know. Once we agree, I'll add it lol.

A range as you suggest might work OK for video files that have more than two episodes in them.

You said - "In my setup, that would look weird because it would be 1x01. -02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3"

1x01 -02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3 kinda looks better than 1x01 02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3 but not ideal I guess.

In my skin (Xperience1080) I don't see a dot . after the 1x01 in the episode list.

However in an episode INFO page then the dot is present after the 1x1.

But it is 1x1. and not 1x01. in the INFO page. See screen shots on previous page, the Zero seems to be dropped.

Can a separator be used

1x01 02-03 Title | Title 2 | Title 3

It does look different in Confluence vs Xperience1080 skin. No 1x or 2x etc for the season. And there is a dot after each episode number in the episode list as seen in this screen shot.

As I said its certainly a tricky one this one!
