??? Y is image tearing still an issue ?????

Just built a new machine exclusively for Emby Theater for our bedroom.

I have a dedicated server running Emby Server and a HTPC running Emby Classic in WMC and they are problem free.

I gave up on ET long ago due to image tearing.  I would have thought by now it would have been resolved, but in this case it is not.  I spent nearly 4hrs yesterday troubleshooting this.  I reloaded Win7 twice.  I have tried every combination of settings in Emby Theater and settings on the graphics card too.

NO CHANGE.

Why is this still an issue and what is causing it?  I assume the internal player is still not up to snuff?  Happens with bluray and dvd rips.

GIGABYTE GA-H81M-S1 LGA 1150 Intel H81 Micro ATX

Celeron G1820 Haswell Dual-Core 2.7GHz LGA 1150

HIS Silence Radeon HD6570 H657HJ1G 1GB DDR3 PCI-e

4Gb DDR3

90Gb SSD

All movies (DVD & Bluray) are ripped in their complete native folder structure (read no compression)

The new rewrite of emby theatre is due to be released for beta very soon.. The version you are using atm has not had much attention lately as all effort has been on this rewrite... So I suggest you give up again and try again in another month

Well, I've waited this long...what's another month.....

SO does anyone even use ET ?  If so, what player are they using and does the external player work "seamlessly" with ET and does the ext-player work with a standard WMC remote?

PS: How do I get a copy of the latest Beta?????

If you're ripping DVD/BlueRay folders instead of MKV files I'd say don't expect this to get fixed except by sheerest coincidence.  The development team would likely but a nicer spin on that but that's my take.  It's a format that's all but abandoned.  There is very limited testing and development devoted to disc-based formats.  Convert those to MKVs and they'll likely improve significantly.

I use the current ET client and I've never seen any video issues like you describe unless I enable mad VR settings my PC can't actually render in real time.

I'm not really fond of compressing any video if it's avoidable.  When projecting onto an 11' wide screen one wants every bit of detail possible.  Also, I have over 1000 titles, so changing them all to MKV is not really feasible.

MPC-BE and VLC will play the folder structure just fine with no artifacts of any sort, image tearing included.  They just don't work real great with ET and a standard WMC remote.

All of my files are from ripping my DVDs/Blurays to MKV. It just makes an exact copy of the file without any loss. I lose the menus at the beginning of the disc but I don't need those anyway.

I use Emby Theater as it is right now and have not had any trouble with playback for about 4 months now. I have gone through a LOT of testing with the different playback settings until it worked for my setup. I used to have video stutter on my Bluray rips but not now. I use no acceleration and have it set to the madVR as the video renderer and filter set to Edge. That is what ended up working for me...

THANKS for the suggestion.  I tried that combo again, but no dice.

I think it may be official that the internal player for Emby Theater is not capable of playing  DVD or Bluray in their native structure, unless someone around here can prove (PLEASSSSE) otherwise.

What a total bummer since MPC and VLC do.

Dang it......

I pretty much gave up on EmBy theater mode after a couple of months of video tearing and dropped frames, and that is without even kicking in MadVR or ReClock.  I had no issues with Media Browser before it went to the promise of being an "all inclusive" program.  I have a purpose built (overpowered by quite a bit) HTPC and shouldn't have the problems at all.

I was excited by the promise of everything under one hood instead of a separate external player, and certain points in which it isn't very seemless.  Well, it never happened.  EmBy came around, and I thought, "Hey, let me try it again."  Nope still dropped frames and image tearing.  It seems like development has been focused on expanding the program to other platform, and more bells and whistles without fixing the core playback piece the software.  I love the interface, and I am interested in the upcoming re-write, but I also am very skeptical that anything will be fixed for this, which seems odd since the whole purpose of the server and playback applications are design for exactly that, playing back media, and when a major component of that (watching movies) doesn't work well, then people will look elsewhere.

Right now I am using another program that I have to pay for.  I don't want to be accused of advertising, so I won't mention it here.  That software has SOOOO much to configure that it gets a bit daunting to get things exactly the way that you want, but from an audio/video perspective, it works flawlessly right out of the box, including MadVR at max settings and ReClock.

So, I still keep EmBy updated on my server and on my HTPC, but I just never open it anymore.  Maybe the upcoming version will fix this, maybe not.  If it does, I will switch from the paid program back to EmBy in a heartbeat.

I hate to be 'that guy', but if you guys are running dedicated HTPC's like me, then Kodi is probably your best solution for flawless playback. The emby plugin works fantastic, now, and It has the added advantage of being able to turn your HTPC into a true appliance using Kodi Launcher so you never have to even boot into the Windows front end.

I'm also looking forward to the ET re-write, and have several uses in mind for it... but for my HTPC, I will likely stick with Kodi+Emby unless the new ET really pulls out all the stops.

I just recently started using Emby server/theater and was disappointed by the video quality.

I have attached an image that shows the problem.
