lang-server 2
I installed the app and tried some of my movies. This is a windows 10 fresh installed system. The access, etc work just find. But ALL the movies transcode. All my movies are in a mkv container. I have attached a transcode log. Can you tell me why it's transcoding. Thanks transcode-a57151af-c41b-4b2e-ab25-c0a62d94519b.txt
Vicpa 552
Hi, I am no expert but it looks like your mkv's are mpeg2, ac3. The app direct plays mkv's with video in h264 or h265. Mpeg2 is not natively supported. I am sure others will chime in with the pro's and con's I always use h264 -vicpa
7illusions 1249
Like Vicpa says, mpeg2 isn't nativly support my MediaFoundation yet. We are working on other ways to support this in the future without relying on the server transcoding, but it will be a bit longer until that becomes reality. lang-server 2
That was a bad example, old dvd rip. Here is another rip "interstellar", which is similar to my entire movie library. I have attached the transcode log. transcode-02e1bcd4-8819-4c62-bb34-fa030e057beb.txt
Deathsquirrel 741
For interstellar I'd assume the audio was transcoding. DTSD-HD isn't natively supported by Windows 10 IIRC.
Happy2Play 8270
Looks like a bitrate limit also Original "BitRate":29461635 trancoded -maxrate 9680000
7illusions 1249
True, for current version that can be changed by manipulating the streamingProfile. Next version ill have a limit of 40000000. (due very soon)
lang-server 2
so for any movie using dts-hd, it will always transcode, correct ?

BorgSquared 2
Is it possible to add the option to customize transcoding profiles in a later version? If only to customize the channels for transcoding as it forces stereo if not direct. Edit: You can get a video's number of channels from the emby api. lifespeed 42
Will transcoding happen if the Windows 10 computer has the codecs to support the format in question?
Deathsquirrel 741
Will transcoding happen if the Windows 10 computer has the codecs to support the format in question? Yes, the supported codecs are established by microsoft. If your media isn't natively supported it will transcode.
Gina66 2
Hey gang! I think I have a similar question, though this is more about DVD rips than anything. I've updated my Windows 7 desktop to Windows 10, with a backup of my server on a second hard drive. I ran across a couple of forums that said the Windows 8/8.1/10 app wouldn't do DVD rips the way WMC did and that I needed to switch them to MKV, which I did for some of my movies just to make sure it worked. Here's where I've run into issues, though pretty sure it's me and switching these to mkv files (which I've never done before) - How do I get Emby to display two disc sets? LotR extended editions are a great example; before, when I used the app on my laptop (which had Windows 8), I was able to select either the first or the second disc to watch. I was also able to use the DVD menu. In transcoding it (is that what I'm doing?), I can now skip the menu straight into the movie, BUT, I can only play the first disc on the app (both Windows 10 on desktop and laptop), there's no option to use the second disc, even though I have put both into separate folders (Disc 1 and Disc 2) into their appropriate main movie (so Fellowship.../Disc 1) Is there a way to combine two disc, like if disc 2 is a continuation of disc 1? How do I get Emby to show closed caption? In this case, we're talking Crounching Tiger, Hidden Dragon with English subtitles. I made sure to include subtitles when I converted, but it doesn't seem to work. Audio issues with Star Trek III - I get the lovely background score, no actual dialogue. I think that was it for movies - that I know of - now on to TV - For TV shows (which I haven't been able to actually check yet), are you able to automatically move on to the next episode? IE, SeaLab 2021 disc 1, I start the first episode, will it - like it does on the dvd - move on to the next episode?Just a random, general question - how do you change...I guess the properties of a video? For instance, I have two shows that despite having the correct episode name, it's not that episode that's being played. Make sense? So for example if I'm watching Archer season 3, episode 5, that's what it says, but when it plays it's Archer season 3, episode 8; I only have this issues with shows I have...um...procured from the Internet, which are only these two!Another question, which I think is probably easily answered - is there/will there be anyway to view anything bought from Amazon in Emby? I was able to in WMC, but without their Unbox app, I think I can only watch in Media Player (which sucks). Also, are we able to watch anything from Google's play store? I'm probably stretching and being picky, but I don't want to watch either of these things on the respective sites, especially in the case I don't have the Internet. It's stupid and greedy and obnoxious. Alright, I've had my rant for the day!
