Problems Playing Some Movies Fire TV

I don't know if this would have been an issue with earlier versions since I don't recall trying the particular movies I just tested, but with the new Emby app for Fire TV some of my movies will not play.  I haven't tried all, since that would take far too long; but randomly sampling a few titles, some would start for a few seconds (studio logo) and then stop.  Others would not even start playing.  While others worked perfectly fine -- did not try to see if they played all the way through.  TV episodes don't seem to have any problem.

Changing the buffer size had no effect.  Turning off and on 'throttling' in the server had no effect (don't think I was transcoding anyway).

These same movies play fine with Emby for Kodi and in the web app.

I'm seeing the same behavior with the Emby for android app as I see on the Fire TV.

What is the best log to use for this problem, if needed?  Server log or logcat of the Fire TV?

Further example, I put on 'Good Will Hunting' with the web app and jumped ahead 30 minutes or so, stopped the movie and switched to the Fire TV. It would resume the film from where I stopped it using the web app, playing well.  But when I tried to play from the beginning it would start briefly and then stop.  Any ideas?

One of the movies that I know played well before the latest update now stops at approximately 5 minutes.  When a movie is playing and stops the sound disappears first then the picture a few seconds later.

Have you tried adjusting the new playback options?

First, I would try setting the option for direct stream to SD only.

Then, if that doesn't solve it, make sure that the option to allow VLC on transcodes is off.

If still a problem, try turning off VLC altogether.

VLC transcode was already off by default.  Direct stream to SD only didn't work but turning off VLC did.  Thanks.

Okay, one other setting to try if you'd like to still use VLC and direct streaming for some content would be the audio output.  Try setting that to "Compatible" and turning VLC back on.

I'd just like to add that the majority of my media is having major playback issues with the VLC player - turning the audio to compatible didn't help.

Audio on compatible didn't help, I'm afraid.  Tried with direct stream on 720 and SD and got the same result.  The only thing that works for me is turning off the VLC player.

What is the format of the media having issues?

How do you turn off VLC? I don't see that option.

It is in the settings but I suggest trying the beta instead.
