A couple of issues I've found mostly with chromecast

I'm a new user coming from plex and I really love the idea of an open source media manager (Previously used XBMC but ever since I bought a chromecast I switched to plex) Yesterday I installed Emby server and the android app and I've found a couple of issues so far while using the app on my Moto X running Android 5.1.

Server Version: 3.0.5675.1 running on Windows 8.1

Android app version: 2.3.80 running on Android 5.1

- Every time I'm watching on my chromecast and I pause the video, I can't play it again without completely stopping and restarting. The pause button never changes from pause to play. This same issue happens when trying to control the chromecast through the web interface from chrome on my laptop.

- Every time I resume a video it starts from the beginning so I have to search again where I previously was.

- Scrolling sideways between the different tabs works on the main screen but not on submenus, when I go inside TV Shows, I have to tap each of the titles in order to switch tabs.

- The ongoing notification does not open the app when tapped, and the play/pause button doesn't work as expected (It sometimes shows play button when its already playing), so I can't control playback from the notificaion or my lockscreen.

If I find anything else I'll post it, and keep up the great work. It's one of the most robust and complete apps I've ever used. Thank you.

Hi there, welcome. I just pushed a fix to the Chromecast receiver for the pause issue. You can get the fix just by rebooting your CC device.

As far as resume goes, a couple people have reported that but i have yet to reproduce. Could you post the app log?

And the tabs, yes they're all gradually being changed over to the same style as the home screen. There's a few sections that still need to get the change so probably one or two with each release.

Another question, what about the notification issue? I would really like it to open the emby app when tapped as with every other media player and music app on android.

I'm using Chromecast exclusively for playback, using Android to start the video.  I have found that MKV files (ie, BluRay rips of ST:TNG to be precise) skip and stutter and are unuseable excessively on the Chromecast.  I have tried limiting to the framerate to no avail.  Is this coming from network issues (I'm far away, but MOST files play just fine), or is this transcoding from the server (which is a bit underpowered but handles MKV locally just fine)?

I apologize if this is better covered somewhere else, but this is the best Chromecast thread I've seen here.  I see Android got an update to VLC backend, but I get the impression Chromecast's receiver bypasses the new VLC on Android.

We would need more information to diagnose this. Please see

The VLC implementation has nothing to do with the Streaming on CC since your phone just passes the remote commands, the stream itself is directly between your Server and CC ;)

To check whats going on when it stutters you should check your Server CPU utilization (is it Windows, Linux, NAS?). Further look for the WIFI strenght near your CC (e.g. with a Laptop also in 2,4 GHz WIFI net). Last but not least you should really check your transcoding logs. If your Transcoding Frames per Seconds are lower than the Movie FPS, the chances are good that my first point becomes reality :D Also a posted log here is helpful.

I'm having similar issues, the implementation of the chromecast is a bit weird considering how other implementations work for plex and netflix for instance. It doesn't allow your phone to connect to the chromecast app if you started it with your computer (as in it only allows one device to be connected at a time). Same thing with the notifications not bringing you to the app. No use of the default android system for changing sound where it shows up on the TV screen and works in android as a system sound slider. The controls feel very laggy (which could be due to the fact that they don't update right away or keep tabs on whether the app is started or not making the play button feel laggy). It doesn't use the circle arrow with 30s to define going back 30 seconds like plex and netflix do which is incredibly useful. The android app has taken huge strides recently in usability and function but right now it just doesn't work well enough for general use situations and doesn't conform well enough to chromecast standards, it simply breaks down too often and no one without a good amount of computer know how could fix the problems which is a huge barrier to entry for Emby.
