Helping Setting up Storage FreeNAS

Hey guys, currently I'm using Windows with Drivepool for my storage. I have 3 hard drives (all different sizes from 2tb to 4tb) and pretty much each is about 70% full. I want to move over to FreeNAS or another system like it because Windows keeps crashing everything. Emby won't run for anymore than about an hour without crashing, same with Sonarr, Plex, Couchpotato, I think I'm having a lot of problems with Python and such but I'm sick of dealing with Windows problems on this server.

What I would like is a storage pool on FreeNAS perhaps that doesn't do back-up nor parity because I don't care if a hard drive goes bad and I have to replace the files, it's easy and quick for me. The problem, however, is loosing everything on every drive just because 1 hard drive goes bad (which is what happened with Windows storage pools).

Thanks!

you can make pool using just striped drives without parity, but if a disk fails you will lose the pool. if you don't want to lose everything from a disk failure you either need parity or need to have multiple pools.

You don't want FreeNAS (or ZFS) if that is the case, you will lose everything if you lose a drive. Unless you are using it for the reason most people use it for in the first place, with pool snapshots, replication, etc. - then you will be protected, but that is a lot more setup work and takes more hardware than you have.

FreeNAS can be a rock once you get it set up and running but it's not for the faint of heart - there is a learning curve, especially for what you want to do. And with your hardware I wouldn't recommend it at all.

When you say drivepool do you mean the built in drive tools (i.e. Storage Spaces, etc.) or are you actually using StableBits DrivePool software? If you aren't using the latter that is what I'd recommend, it's pretty decent. I'd just blow your server away, reinstall the OS, install Stablebits drivepool to manage the drives - it will do what you want, though it's not a recommended setup - and be done with it. You will probably save yourself a lot of trouble.
