91esprit 8
When I try to play some movies (ie Lucy), the movie starts, runs for 2 seconds, stops for 3 seconds, runs for 2 seconds, stops and starts every couple of seconds. Some other movies (ie Jurassic World) don't start at all. I just get an error message: Video Error There was an error playing the video - ok? No problem playing any movies using WMC or WMP. Please help. ebr 14903
That CPU simply is not up to the task of transcoding video on the fly. It is only producing 5 fps. Based on its benchmark score (a 758 vs 9,000-13,000 for an i7) it just appears to be too underpowered.

I loaded the EMBY server onto my new Dell laptop and I am getting the same problems with the same avi's The laptop is Intel i&-5500U @2.4 GHz - 64bit W8.1 It has to be something set wrong. Settings in Shark007 codec? I also tried installing EMBY theater and the movies play ok there. Could it be something with Chrome settings or addins needed? ebr 14903
Yes, those other apps don't need to transcode so there is no load on your server. As for the new server, we'd need to see transcode logs for it. The web browsers aren't going to use your installed codecs so shark is irrelevant. 91esprit 8
OK, here are the log files for the new server. Intel i7-5500U @2.4 GHz - 64bit W8.1 The movie Lucy now seem to play ok which supports the horsepower theory. Jurassic still errors out same as before. I also attached a transcode log for LiveTV which is dropping so many frames it is unwatchable. Also not enough HP? ebr 14903
Luke will need to look at them but Jurrasic World never got as far as attempting a transcode.
91esprit 8
Thanks very much EBR. I really am a nooby at this so please pardon some stupid questions. I really like the EMBY Web client. I assume that all this transcoding is so the videos will play in a regular browser. Is that correct? I don't think I'm ready to spend a couple of thousand dollars for new server hardware just to do what WMC does for me now. I tried EMBY Theater and its great except that there is no TV guide and I can't see a way to record TV. Is there any way to get around this transcoding issue? What kind of hardware would I need to be able to watch a video and record a TV show at the same time? Edited July 30, 2015 by 91esprit
