DVD, Chapters and autoring respect !

Hello,

I'd tryed to put a musical DVD (a show of Beverly jo scott that i have made myself and 300% sure that respect all the usage in autoring dvd setting, it is sell and mass produced).

I'd spend 2 weeks for mixing and autoring it. and i'm realy bad to see what EMBY do with it !

The dvd contain 2 sound tracks,  one in stereo and one in 5.1 both are marked as FRENCH in the autoring process.

in Emby i see 2 tracks, but false in english  for 1  and unknow  for the second test

Mys subtitle 3 languages  becomes 3 "unknow one"

my chapters (cuted précisly 500ms before the first note of a song, are purly ignored and emby mak a chapter every 5 minute !!!!!!!!!! totaly inusable in musical show.)

so with emby it is not possible to navigate between the songs.

my bonus track is just pushed after the big track

and my bonus photo album with background music  is purely ignored.

So all my work  is on the "TRASH"

i'd test with 2 other comercial DVD  and the probl is the same.

so,  i had tested to rip my content  but probl is still here

i had cuted the file  in 10 song (10 files) nubered 01 title ,02 title ,03 title,   but Emby don't push them together.  i can opnly choice  ONE song, and it stop at the end.

i' tried to push them in a collection (but the collection is not in the good folder it is on collection one.

and moved my song bonus in "extra folder" but emùby don't see extra for musical film !

when i listen to the result in collection, there is a very BAD  gap between the songs and a back pict between.  terrible !!!!

the pict ablum slitll ignoreed so.

By the moment i must make ONE file with the complete SHOW

10 files with individual song

and one video file with the album off pict converted in viodeo format.

and it is not realy good but..

Do you think that i there another BETTER way to make a media server work find winth medias that already works find  without this media server?

i've got 200 show to push in, and 1 night to spend to coy 2 or 3 time the content to make it readable in embyt  is a little too much.

Other probl too.

THIS particular show is in a folder with my name (where i puysh all my own production,)

but i can't see it in the "music video" folder, i had tried to add the folder in "music video" but emby don't cazre about.

must i  copy one time more the 3X copy off all  in music too?

so a DVD off 4 GB   become more than 12 GIGA???

and, the last, is that metadata of the 2 database where the DVD is,   are not read by emby !!!!! !!

i think that the min is

Emby let me make my chapter again (if it can read a dvd chapter)

chapter 1  5'24"

chapter 2  12'14"

.......  (and this with MY picture and not a picture taked i don't know where)

it muist let me SET the parma that it can't fix itself

audio seem to be in "ENG"  but there are  "FR" so let me push the corect info when it is needed

read my extra folder and atach it, like it does for film or serie

let me make a link in "musical video"  with a "personal video in my own folder".

And "voila" ;-)

P.S:   i'm afraid to push a multi-angle dvd in emby  or

a SOUND only 5.1  DVD  i think i'm the new Emby beta tester lol

DVD playback will be very hit or miss in anything other than something like an HTPC player that knows how to play them (like WMC).  The support for transcoding or streaming them is very limited.

We work with them about as well as anyone but there are definitely limitations.  The whole industry is moving away from these disc-based formats and as far as computer or similar device playback goes, disc formats were abandoned a while back so none of the current tools or playback engines really support them.

hum, the probl is the same for blue ray disk, and the usage off chapter is gion into DIVX MKV too. the prinpile  stay the smae. possibilitie to divide a long filmm in 10 scenes and jupt from one to another,

OR. if it is possibvle to cut the film in 10 films, and aut assemble them

01

02

03

04

and  NEVER HAVE a GAP when passing between the end off film 01 to the beggining of 02 !!

MP3 is the same probl and must be lostr.  an album without space between song (long song sub divided, in mp3  alwais make a gap between them, so i use ONLI OGG or FLAC.

Artists and musician spend 20 years to make a set without a gap between 2 songs this is not for a player  make one lol !

And i know some feature (multi angle,  link in the film etc...... that no one other syst than DVD and BD  can do ;-)

The reason why  DIVX is copiyng the syst ;-) and that will save my 35 arstis on dvd an BD ;-)

In FACT and by the moment the best way seem to be, making the possibility to make chapter but not every 5 min, but in th specific time we declare in

It is pretty easy to make i'm sure ;-)

The problem will be even worse with BDs.

The fact is that the software industry has moved away from these disc-based formats and is concentrating on file formats that can be played directly and streamed more easily.

The best thing to do is convert them to mp4 or mkv.

I agree for the most part, for movies I see no problem to convert, but for music dvd's I don't see it as an option.

Clearly there are programs that can play DVD's, can you explain why it isn't possible to use mechanisms in such software in the server to select the part you want to play, play it and than transcode it to a client. Is it a licensing fee problem, is technically impossible or does it cost a huge effort (time) to program such a solution?

Thanks.

The cost in resources is disproportionate to the demand is the simple answer.  These disc-based formats get less and less popular with users so resources on various projects reduce accordingly.

that's correct. never say never so anything is possible if we have enough time and help. but it would have been a better project 3-4 years ago when demand was much higher.

i never trold about PLAYING DVD, but about make featured file LIKE dvd or BD

converting a BRD with a 8 core PC  just taked me 12HR this night. but i'd lose the chapter and all the featuring.  alll i was asking is

how to makje CHAPTER in a film in the database.

it is already possible emby do these but in a very bad chapter every 5 min.

or, it can remeber where ytou haved stoped a film.

so if only we can FIX the chapter where we want, there is a big thinks to do ;-)

MKVs can hold chapter information and most tools that can rip from discs to mkv will bring that chapter information along with it.  Then Emby can read it and displays it to you in the app with an image (optional if you enable it) and direct access to that chapter.  Here it is in the the Emby Fire TV app:

And, even during playback:

55ba6c5b0f73c_chaptersplayback.png

The only shortcoming as far as concerts is concerned is the lack of a good name for the chapter.  We'd like to add editing ability for that at some point but you may even be able to do it by editing the mkv file...

Your ripping program should preserve the existing chapter markers.  MakeMKV certainly does in my experience.  Your rip and conversion times are also really unusually high unless your system is just particularly bad at this.  Even without QSV encoding I was doing software encodes in around 2-4 hours for a 2 hour film, plus about 20-40 minutes to rip.  With QSV encoding that's more like 30 minutes to encode after ripping.

i make my own chapter, but, if i can read them in VLC, in EMBY  it only take is own chapter every 5 min

And for the time of makin MKV  it is just i setr a QUALITEY convert. my film are for long time usage, it is a real works. making one cost money and 300 ou 700 hours. so  12H to convert it is nothing in fact.

but i can make bad BD in 1H too, but i do'nt like to see that lol

@Deathsquirrel   i'm not talking about ripping dvd o brd,  but to authoring them.... it take a litle bit more time to encode a 60Mo/sec with a authoring soft, than ripping a pre encoded file at 2 ou 5MO/sec  ;-)

If you completely changed the video file you may need to do an advanced refresh on the item in Emby in order for it to re-interrogate it for chapter information.  I assure you, if the information is there in the mkv properly, we will read it.

Try deleting the cache/ffprobe-video folder under your emby server folder.
