I have an ongoing issue every time I watch a Movie, TV show ECT  ...once im finished I always back out of the app to go to the home screen or I hit the home botton. However, When I try to log back in the app hangs on a gray screen. The only way for me to login back in is to force close the app. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated

I also have the same issue. Emby also freezes every 10-15 minutes of playback. There are no logs on the server side, and I have no trouble with playback on any other devices. So it seems to be on the app side.

Do you back out really fast?

Also, how did you start playing the item?  From a list or from a detail screen?

This sounds like a completely different issue to me.  Please explain exactly what you mean by "freezes every 10-15 minutes of playback".  The video stutters?  The video stops? Is the app still responsive?  Can you produce the on-screen controls?  Can you back out...?

It grey screens as fatannasty described. For me it happens both when I try to back out of the app and come back in. And in the middle of playback.

In playback the video shudders for a split second then the screen goes grey. All I can do is go back to the android homescreen and force stop the app. If I try to reopen the app before force stopping I get the same grey screen without any controls that fatannasty described. I then have to reopen the emby app and begin playback again.

I back out normal..I switch to a different app ( example I-Heart Radio, Google Music, Pandora,CBS kids) then I try to log back in ...That is when I am presented with the grey screen. When this happens, I always have to force close the app for it to start working again

There are some bugs I've been fighting with in the Android framework I'm using which will cause a crash in some instances if you move around the interface too fast.  Not sure if that is what you are seeing when navigating.

On the playback crash I've never seen that happen.  Is it possible that you are losing your network connection?

If you guys are game to try the new beta I can add you to that list and see if it is any better for you.  PM me the email address associated with the device if you wish to participate.

Was there any resolution here from ryantiger658?

I know there have been plenty of updates to the Android TV app since then, but this just started happening to me. Occasionally freezing in the middle of playback, no remote buttons pressed, gray screen, then back button stops working. I can exit Emby by using the home button, reopening Emby is still frozen. Must force wit from settings and reopen.

Also wondering if anyone has ideas related to codecs causing this. Because it's happening more frequently (if not ONLY) files with EAC3 audio. Like the screenshot below.

I know it's over a year old. I'm just hoping some others involved are still following the post, because my symptoms seen identical.

I believe you guys don't like duplicate threads, figured I'd give this a shot.

I am a brand new emby premiere lifetime subscriber and I am having the same issue. I did back out screen by screen and it loaded fine but I have exited several different ways and I get the grey screen. Surely we don't have to exit a certain way. If so, the WAF will go off the chart and I will have to revert to Plex.

Hi, welcome. Can you describe in more detail everything you did leading up to the issue? thanks.

I am of course using the Fire TV v2 box with the emby app. I have the server running on a windows 10 machine. I can watch any video in the app and close it in a variety of ways and will get a solid grey screen. The only way to use it is to force close the app.

Yes, please describe exactly what you are doing that is causing this crash.  Also, be sure that you have the most up-to-date version (1.2.31a).  Thanks.

Just to provide information to support computerprep, I have had the same issue as he describes.  I am using Android TV on a Sony Bravia 2015 model Smart TV.  Watching for perhaps 20-30 mnutes, the playback will freeze and only pressing home will get me out of the app.  Going back into emby shows the grey screen computerprep describes.  I did not try force closing the app only because I did not see the option, but I had to restart Android to get it working again.  I watched the same file again from the Continue point and another 20-30 minutes after the same issue repeated itself.  I have not tried other files (still auditioning the Emby for Android TV app since I mainly use Emby for Media Center) but I am willing to help troubleshoot, provide data etc. if it will help.

I do not know what version number I am using, but it showed as the latest available in the play store.

For further information, here is a screengrab showing information on the video I was trying to view when this happened.

Can you tell me exactly (or as close as possible) when that happened and the name of the Emby user that was logged in at the time?  Thanks.

It happened yesterday (Sunday) twice in the afternoon.  I think 3 PM or so.  The user that was logged in would be the same as the account I post on this forum as, mickeyfinn.

Okay, thanks.  Unfortunately, I'm not getting an error report.  The only one I see from you was user-initiated and about four weeks ago.

For kicks, try setting the auto-logoff time to a high number and see if it has an effect.  I really doubt it but its the only timed thing I can think of that could be coming into play here.

So, I managed to do a bit more testing.  Last night I viewed another file, after expanding the auto-logoff to 2 hours.  I was able to watch without issue in excess of 2 hours.  I watched the file that had the original issue again this morning (6:00 AM) and it froze up at 28 minutes in (a different spot than last time, but relatively close).  I tried to back out of playback and it did so after a few seconds, but then went to the grey screen.  I was able to force close and reopen the application again.

Yeah, I didn't think the auto logoff would have any effect.  Thanks for trying.

Has your problem always occurred on this one video?

Yes, always on that one video.  I haven't used the Android TV client for very long, but was hoping to transition over to it.  I use Emby for WMC currently and plays this file through OK.  Maybe it is just this one file but I haven't used it enough to know for sure, I would have to put in a lot more testing to verify, unless you have suggestions on the type of file to concentrate on?  Maybe those with the same audio or video formats?
