Cast & Crew Issue

Hi,

Was having a play around with the Android app this morning when I noticed something curious. I was clicking on actors when I noticed that their other movies and TV appearances were no longer showing up. I then used my server, using both the WMC app and the web browser, and the same was true on both, as well as my laptop operating Theater. Beings as the issue is affecting all my apps I thought the server forum might be the best place to post this, apologies if it's a better fit elsewhere

What makes this stranger is that, if I click on the most recent film added to my library (Barefoot in the Park, not that it's really relevant!), all actors' films show up correctly

The data for these actors shows correctly no matter which of their films I am looking from, however, I click on another actor from any other film the information is missing. In this example, I clicked on the Robert Redford link from All The President's Men and the screen was as above, but when I clicked on another actor:

There's nothing. I've tried dozens of films and shows, and the only actors working as they should are the ones from Barefoot in the Park. All actors were showing correctly before adding this film, and I've tried deleting it but it makes no difference. Any suggestions?

From the Alpha Section.

Didn't want to open a new topic for this. In version 3.0.5666.4, the person info pages don't show the movies/shows/episodes they appear in for me on the webclient.

Data isn't lost, it's just not being displayed because the database format has changed a little in order to improve performance which should be evident by the must faster searches, and other improvements elsewhere. I chose not to do a forced migration because in the past people have not responded well to long migration processes after updates. The data will upgrade to the new format naturally as records get saved. That is why Happy2Play doesn't notice it, because he's been running dev builds and the migration has already happened for him over the last week or two.

Thanks for your reply. Doing complete library rescan and from the films I've checked so far all seems well. I had been refreshing individual items with no success, but the full rescan seems to have done the trick, thanks

Okay, clearly spoke too soon. The buttons under people for movies, shows and episodes are at least showing now, but there's stiil no items being listed underneath them. I also noticed that things like 'Recommendations' are no longer showing. I assume it's all related?

Probably something that can be solved by my just waiting patiently...

Same issue for me.

I just noticed yesterday that I still have all the pictures of all the actors, but Emby no longer knows the list of actors and in which movie they appear.

In fact, the list of actors is nearly empty: the only ones showing are the actors for the last 3 films I added.

Something has changed recently to the actor DB. Is there a way to rebuild it? Doing a library rescan does not fix the issue.

Thanks.

I noticed the same issue - for some reason, many of my movies have lost all Cast & Crew information.

I am running Version 3.0.5675.1, however I don't know precisely when this happened.

And I was unable to find a patern for the movies for which this happens. For some movies, I have all Cast & Crew info, for some others this info is gone.

The simple Library re-scan does not re-populate this info - the only thing that fixes it is to go to the web client, edit the item, and hit refresh from the Metadata Manager.

Since this refresh button is also available at the library level, I've been doing this on all my libraries.

Same issue for me I suppose.  Running Version 3.0.5675.1.

If I go and manually refresh a new movie,  now the actor's picture shows whatever movie it already did plus this one new movie.  So, for instance,  if I have Brad Pitt as an actor and he already shows for one movie, say Fury, and I got to the entry for 12 Years a Slave, which does show Brad Pitt's picture in the actor section,  it does not show him for that movie if I click his picture.  But, if I refresh 12 Years a Slave,  it now shows both Fury and itself as movies for Brad when I click on his picture.  But the many other movies he should show up in that I own do not show, unless I go one by one and refresh them.

Any thoughts on this issue with actors not showing all the movies a person has with them in it unless a manual refresh is done on that movie?

I also have had the same problem since upgrading to Version 3.0.5675.1.

A complete rescan does not fix anything. Hopefully this will be addressed in the next version or two.

Here is what I have noticed, I am on 3.0.5675.1 as well. When I first add a new movie it appears to fetch fine, and actors are present and displayed. After 24/48 hrs if I revisit this movie the actors have disappeared. I just added a few more movies today to test if what I saw over the weekend happens again with these new movies as well cause as of right now they all have actors.

I am having the same issue with the actors not showing the other movies they are in.  Oddly enough, the daily shows they are in display.  But nothing else.

If I can do a forced migration and wait it out I'd like to do that.  Please let me know how.

Just to add my own experience to this, even though my Emby is on Linux, I too was having the same problem, so I decided  too try two things as I have been using MCM to create the metadata (films are stored on an smb share then an fstab entry added to the server Emby is on)

1. Changed the path where MCM stores the actor information (another smb share)

2. Cleared the metadata from each film, which deleted the nfo and xml file.

3. Re fetched metadata so each film created a new nfo and xml file (my library is still small as I'm new to Emby)

This has solved the problem, now when I select an actor the films they appear in are displayed.

However, a film I recently added I decided not to use MCM I let Emby do the work, but with the images, backdrops etc, I have to download and save to where the movie is stored, not too much of an effort but it works Ok. The nfo file created though displays as 0KB within the movie folder and opening it with Notepad ++ it is empty, so the actual nfo that Emby is using must be somewhere else within the Emby directory structure.....but it works.

Welp every movie I added yesterday has now gone and lost its actors when they all were fine when being first added. So there is some automated scheduled task or some nightly process that is causing this. So now I need to refresh every movie i added yesterday. Doing a top level advanced refresh is not something I'm really interested in doing as I don't want to risk some of my customized metadata and there is no way to tell Emby to target only certain areas of metadata sections for the advanced refresh.

My movies have no metadata from any other metadata scraper as I deleted all my movie metadata over a year ago when I switched off of Metabrowser. Emby is doing all my metadata work and is saving as nfos everywhere as I have also abandon older xmls.

I was just grateful to find this thread and people with the same problem as it helped me solve mine. I have been scrolling through some of my collection and found that The Hobbit, Ian McKellan was only showing in 2 films, deleted the nfo's and refreshed now he shows in 10 of the films I have, including all 3 Hobbit films. So for me the nfo file appeared to be my problem.

I have to admit I don't fully understand how all this ties together, I was satisfied that I was able to solve it.

So I would need to go into every folder and delete the NFO file to fix this?

A folder level refresh should do it for you.

Just pick one of these three:

- If you have Emby internet metadata turned off, then just use your other program to edit your nfo/xml, and do nothing in Emby

- If you do use Emby internet metadata and the people still exist in your nfo/xml, then do nothing and they will gradually come back

- Or, if you do use Emby internet metadata and were affected by the bug causing people to get lost from xml/nfo, then just refresh from the metadata manager.

I use Emby metadata only,  but migrated to a new server.  Weeks went by with minimal artist pictures of info except where I click an actor one by one and refresh.

To get the actors to show up as starring in each movie, I have to refresh the movie folders one by one.  Is that what is expected?   I can do that, and it works, but sure takes a long time to do that from the metadata manager for every single movie.

Have you verified if people still exist in metadata?

Library Refresh

From the Metadata Manager - Select Movies library/folder - then select Refresh (to refresh everything)

Ahh.. you are the man! Sorry I didnt know about clicking refresh from that spot before.  This is working and filling in the movies when I click on the actors.

I had the same concern as BAS. I have thousands of movies, many of which I had to get the right metadata/cover for manually. If I refresh, is it going to undo all of that manual intervention?

Hmm...  now I didnt have to really get any covers manually.  What are some example movies that it did not pull the right cover for?  How did you name them?

Happy2Play

It won't delete the covers but if you have customized them it may replace them with the primary image from Image fetcher, but doing a refresh on a single movie did not touch my custom images on the video I tested on.

So...is the plan just to ignore this issue?

I've tried refreshing but it doesn't work.  Is there some cache we can just clear?  Do I need to wipeout my whole MB installation to fix this?
