Some Artists and Album Artists don't show in library, albums do

Some of my artists don't show up. Neither in the Artists view nor in the Album Artists View. The albums by that artist however do show up.

I used MusicBrainz Picard to tag all my albums.

Emby creates a .nfo file with the correct albums connected to the artist.

One of the artist I have this problem is Ane Brun with the albums Spending time with Morgan and another album I can't recall at the moment.

I read some people had problems with " in the album or artist name. But the albums nor the artist have those ".

Somebody else run into this and found a solution?

we should look at specific examples, with their folder structures, tags, etc.

Sounds reasonable.

I use the following folder structure:

\Music\Amy Winehouse\Amy Winehouse (2003) Frank\01. Song.ogg

\Music\Amy Winehouse\Amy Winehouse (2006-10-30) Back to Black\01. Song.ogg

\Music\Ane Brun\Ane Brun (2011-09-07) It All Starts With One\01. Song.ogg

\Music\Ane Brun\Ane Brun (2003-05-25) Spending Time With Morgan\01. Song.ogg

Amy Winhouse shows up perfectly, albums and artist. Ane Brun doesn't show up, but her albums do. I used MusicBrainz to tag the songs.

I attached the .nfo files of both artists. (renamed them for clarity)

In an attempt to fix this. I deleted the .nfo files from Ane Brun and renamed the mapstructure to:

\Music\Ane Brun\It All Starts With One\01. Song.ogg

\Music\Ane Brun\Spending Time With Morgan\01. Song.ogg

But that didn't help. Als removing all the .nfo files (also of the albums) and replacing the files to another map, and scan that map to another library in Emby didn't help. Again the albums showed up, but Ane Brun herself didn't.

artist (Ane Brun).txt

artist (Amy Winehouse).txt

Is it that if you view by album, the album artist is shown as 'Ane Brun', but when you click on that hyperlink you are taking to 'Ane Brun' but there are no albums? this has been reported previously will find link

No. That's not my issue. My problem is, that the artist doesn't show up at all. Not in artist view, but also not if I click the link in album view.

I also found the problem you describe at the forum. It really sounds related so I tried the solutions I found on that forum topic. (using standard folder structure, tagg with MusicBrainz)

Perhaps post the screenshots as you navigate to the problem artist from the artist view side and through the album side/artist hyperlink...

Im trying to picture what you are seeing when u click on the artist hyperlink in the album view.

I think we're getting close to a solution.

Because. I noticed I don't have any artist hyperlink under the albums. Not for Amy Winehouse and not for Ane Brun. Then I started digging, and noticed that I only have artist links for artist I still have in the following map structure:

\artist\album\0x. songs

Amy and Ane have the following map structure

\artist\artist (yyyy-mm-dd) album\0x. songs

Apparently the second structure messes things up. It's probably also got something to do with the fact that I'm not used to writing tags to the songs. I just use musicbrainz to organize my library. So if Emby doesn't recognizes the folder scructure, it probably messes my library.

Do you think this is the reason? If so, how can I completely erase my current Emby database?

After that I can reorganize with MusicBrainz and become (hopefully) a happy user of Emby.

p.s. I made some pictures like you asked. But I don't think they are of any use anymore.

Emby wont work on folder structure..all tracks must be tagged.

If not tagged, then this is at least part of problem.

Does Emby support ogg file format? Because it looks like all my songs in that file format lead to this problem.

Or doesn't Emby support tagg ID3v2 version 2.4?

At least it's not the file structure  (as you already pointed out) or the taggs. I tagged and moved a small part of my library with musicbrainz picard. But the problem still persists (also I found out I did already tagg the albums if I used musicbrainz picard, my mistake).

I don't see the artist in Artist view and also the albums I ripped in ogg format don't show the artist in the Album view or have a link to the artist (see screenshots). But the FLAC and mp3 ripped albums show up perfectly.

dont know about  ogg..

search appdata for ffprobe.exe and run on commandline against a sample tagged ogg file..if ffprobe understands ogg and emby doesnt, then i think a feature request would have a good chance of succeeding...

yea we do. ogg should be fine. would be interesting to see ffprobe output

It's good news Emby can handle ogg. But the result is I really don't know what can be wrong with my files.

I added a ffprobe log from one of the songs with the artist not linked to the album problem (ffprobe-20150602-194121.log).

For the record I also added a ffprobe log from a song that is correctly linked with the artist in Emby (ffprobe-20150602-195219.log).

I didn't use any options, just: ffprobe -report [filename]. Is that ok?

Maybe other usefull information. The kodi library, the plex library and the serviio library can handle these files just fine. But I like the potential of Emby a lot more than any of these servers.

thanks. do you mind doing those logs again with the following params?

 -print_format json -show_streams -show_format

thanks.

that's not it. it should have dumped out some json. try adding >> out.txt to the end

ok that's interesting. the wrong one has it's tag data placed differently within the file. i'll update the server to handle this for the next release.

Thank you. You figured that out pretty fast.

Any idea when the next release will be? I wil start testing (and hopefully using) Emby again by then.

I tried the latest update to 3.0.5641.4 but it didn't help. Should I wait for a major release like 3.1 or 4.0?
