Using Emby on android abroad to stream from home server to a local renderer

Dear All,

maybe my usecase is not so common:

- location A: home, where my emby server is running

- location B: a friends place, where I'd like to watch one of my movies

- emby server on windows at home (location A)

- emby android app on my cell to watch media (location A)

- android app also works abroad as expected (location A&B )

- when I connect to location A server on my android device and then try to display the movie on an external renderer, it displays renderers from location A only, regardless where I am.

- I would like to have the option to scan also the local network (location B ) I'm in with my adroid device so I can play back on the TV screen on my friends

In general, as a user, I would expect by default to be presented with the option to stream to renderers locally available, not from the network of the emby server. What do you think?

Is this already available, and I just could not find that capability?

Or is it a planned functionality? When should I expect early access?

Or should it be added to a requested feature list?

Or is nobody interested, and it will never make it into the product?

Yes, it's a good idea and something we should look into in the future. For now this is possible with chromecast, but not yet with dlna.

How would that work with Chromecast?

I was thinking that a Chromecast stick would be handled like another DLNA device - right?

Alternatively, you might consider miracast (aka screen mirroring) instead. I think this might pose the same issue as with DLNA: two different networks

- one remote to acess the server

- one local to connect for screen mirroring

Can't test as I'm home right now...

+1

I would be willing to work on this, I am at home for winter break and just recognized this need and would love to use it over break haha.

Luke/devs any pointers on where to start in the code? Otherwise I'll jump in and try to figure it out!
