More offline access question

I just reinstalled win8.1 and the app. I wanted to know if there is a different in using Emby connect and manual connect? I ask because I connect with emby connect and then I close the app and disconnect the Internet and open the app again and I'm back a the login page with no offline access. What am I doing wrong?

Sometimes it works great and other times it just doesn't work at all. Like for example, today I was home connected to my wifi, I then took my tablet with me and was offline. Then I started the App and it ask me what mode I want as if it was the first time I was using it and I was logged out without being able to access offline. Then I connected to my phone wifi to to be able to login and I tried both manual and emby connect and both time I closed the the app and disconnect the Internet and open the app again and I didn't have access to the offline content and was back to the login.

I have the same problem - sync all the good stuff locally so I can watch on the plane ... then when I launch the app I can't watch any of the offline content until I have connected to the server ( and obviously that's not a option ) .... did I miss something somewhere ?

Thanks for fixing that issue ....

Next question - When I configure a TV series to Sync with all future unwatched episodes - it seems the quality of the file defaults to high and I cannot change it to original ... it always go back to high ... ?

The intent behind the preference to original is simply to reduce resource requirements on the server for conversion and quicker sync ...

Would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

No offline sign in button. When I open the app. offline it says

Sign In with Emby connect

then asks for username and password.

a sign in button and a skip button.

If you click skip it might be on the next screen. It's definitely there. We'll have to make sure it's always on the very first screen,.

if i press skip it shows me an option for manual configuration then asks for hostname and port.  and on the right a detected server with nothing there.

i am not using theater just the 8.1 app.  the server says I have synced content to the computer and when I turn on wifi and login to the server it shows offline content under tv shows but nothing happens when i try to play the episode.

If I turn on Airplane mode BEFORE I launch Emby it goes straight to Offline content ... If the Wifi is turn on and Emby can't see the server it goes through the process described above where it asks to configure manually ...

This is the experience I now get "most of the time" ... I have also seen only the option the manually configure it .. not sure if it has to do with putting the tablet into sleep or rebooting since last server contact ...

thanks neiluys that was it.  you have to close the app completely it looks like then turn on airplane mode and then relaunch the app and it goes into offline mode.

Feature request ... ( Not sure what theprocess is for that .. )

Can we included a button in Settings that will allow for the manual toggle on or off of Syncing .... ?

I often find myself on the bad side of a small internet link ... because EMBY has backround access in Windows 10 it will start to try and find my server and update all that is good in the world - and that's a good thing - unless I need the bandwidth to do work on a small link ...

Yes, I've been thinking around this and an option to only sync if the server is on the local network is the best way to do this I think.

I will see what I can do to improve this.

Thanks ... good idea....- one last one ... not a biggy ... when selecting a tv series for offline sync - it's only possible if there is at least one episone unwatached  ...

My workaround at present goes ... go to series ( say Falling Skies ) I am up to date - so can't create TV Servies Sync Job - change one episode to unwatched - create the Sync Job and then change said episode back to watched.

Doesn't happen often - Only need to set a sync job once for the series ... Just thought I would mention it..

I thought I'd post here, rather than starting a new "hey offline doesn't work" thread.

So after the sync issue fix (Thank you 7illusions), I'm trying to play with offline "mode".  The problem, I can't access offline files, unless I'm online.  (oxymoron?)

The scenario:

Windows 10, surface pro 4 (latest release: 3.4.6.367)

Open Emby on wifi or ethernet: auto connects to server, and shows "offline" content button

Turn off wifi, and/or ethernet, or airplane mode: Device has not network connectivity, but app will NOT go into offline mode. Opens with asking for Emby connect, or skip (I skip), and then asks for manual entry.

The culprit:

I have VMWare workstation installed on the laptop, and even though it's not running, it has 2 network adapters it has installed by default. These show enabled and "connected" at 100mbps.  But no internet.  These are simply virtual adapters.

If I disable the VMWare adapters, and then try to open Emby, YAY - Offline mode.

Thoughts?  Not sure how the code is looking for active internet connections, but I guess it's looking for even a single enabled adapter?

This is a 2-fold issue.  It sucks that airplane mode doesn't disable these adapters, though I suppose if it did, VMWare wouldn't work. So is it possible to fix via Emby?

Since I've found a workaround, I wouldn't call this high priority, but it would be nice to have on the list.

Thanks!
