Server - Delete Unwanted or Erroneous Metadata...

Hey folks,

Can I please ask for the option somewhere, most probably in Metadata Manager, to remove/delete unwanted/erroneous metadata please? And would it be possible that this option could be applied to any level of a Media Folder also? i.e. the root or a sub-folder or a sub-sub-folder, etc.

My justification for this:

Before I found out how to lock a Media Folder in Emby Server from being metadata'd and in so learning, hit the all important "Lock this item to prevent future changes" checkbox in Metadata Manager, I had a Media Folder that got caught in a metadata scrape (i.e. a Library Scan). Looking back, I realise now I should have created the Media Folder first, then locked said Media Folder via Metadata Manger, then added the Media Locations, but I didn't and so now I have a bunch of media files that are copies of streamed sermons (biblical lectures) coming up as UFC episodes - irony hey!

Anyhow, after moving the media files to another location, deleting the Media Locations within Emby Server, running a Library Scan, then deleting the Media Folder within Emby Server, running another Library Scan and then finally restarting Emby Server, upon adding back the Media Folder, locking it and then adding a Media Location and then copying back one of the media files' folders into the Media Location, Emby Server's Metadata Manager is still saying these streamed sermons are still UFC episodes!

I had deleted all *.XML and all *.NFO files and erroneous poster/thumbnail images before deleting the Media Folder / Media Locations, but even still, the incorrect metadata remains. I'm guessing there is a cache somewhere that is not being cleaned?

Now while yes, I could go through, one-by-one, my media files and edit the metadata info within Metadata Manager - and yes this does work as I have tried this on 1 or 2 files - the amount of files that have been incorrectly metadata'd ... well, lets just say that it wouldn't be a quick process and its a process I'd rather not have to undertake!   :o

So yes, could the option to please remove/delete unwanted/erroneous metadata be added into Emby Server or Metadata Manager somewhere please.

Thanks heaps,

Dodgy Bob

In your situation, instead of locking the metadata, you should change the media content type to "Home Videos".  That will stop us from ever trying to retrieve metadata for them.

OK, can do, because that is something I haven't mentioned yet or tried. Currently, I do have this Media Folder set to "Content type: Unset (mixed content)", because this Media Folder contains both video and audio files.

Obviously I can go and try this myself, but the outstanding question will be, in doing so, will the MP3's that are a part of this Media Folder, will they still be available to play through this Media Folder if it is set to 'Home Videos'?

Hey again,

OK, so I did change the Media Folder from "Content type: Unset (mixed content)" to "Content type: Home videos" and as I had thought would happen, I did lose the ability to view and listen to any MP3's available through this Media Folder. In changing Content Type, Emby Server asked me to remove/delete my Media Folder and re-add it and so, in doing this, the following also happened:

  • The metadata was lost from the sub- Media Folders (nice!)
  • The first test sub- Media Folder retained its locked status (I would have thought this would have been lost as well?)
  • The second test sub- Media Folder did not generate thumbnails, yet it is unlocked (essentially this is a new Media Folder, so shouldn't this have carried out?)

So I'm going to change the Content Type back now and see if the metadata is truly gone and obviously, get back the ability to view/listen to the MP3's in this Media Folder. So in a roundabout way, I guess I'm back at square one.

Regards,

Dodgy Bob.

Righto,

So I switched back from "Content type: Home videos" to "Content type: Unset (mixed content)" and once again, MP3's are available alongside of videos in this particular root- Media Folder.

Funny thing though, again, as Emby Server's Library requires you to do, I had to remove/delete the root- Media Folder and re-add it in order to change the Content Type and just as happened previously, in so doing, the original test sub- Media Folder that was in the root- Media Folder kept its locked status. Is this how it is supposed to work is it? Its just that I am thinking if I have removed a Media Folder, then that root- Media Folder's settings and consequent sub- Media Folder's settings should have been removed as well, but if this is by design, then thats fine.

Oh, and it would appear that changing Content Types is what ended up removing / deleting my incorrect/unwanted metadata, as it is gone now! Its a roundabout and cumbersome way of doing so, but it does get the job done. I would still appreciate an actual "delete" / "remove" button or checkbox or option or something that would just do the job with 2 or 3 clicks, rather than the hoops I had to jump through this time around  :D

I could use this for the horrible times I discover that I had a seasons labels all wrong compared to the TVDB... I am not going to manually fix dozens of files metadata in the editor... I want to rename the files, delete ALL the metadata about them and then refresh it.

At the moment, for some reason, if I delete all the data, from an item, and then all the NFO files, and then try refreshing the metadata, it just reloads the old completely incorrect metadata...

Because its' just repeating what was done before. Instead try going to the series detail page, click the dot menu -> identify. Make sure the series is properly recognized and then that should improve what is underneath.

I have to admit sometimes I wish as admin I could do some "batch" stuff in Emby.

For example, I don't want the "Chapter Extraction" feature of Emby.... so I removed the Chapter scheduled task, but I know somewhere in my HD there's space being taken by old generated chapters.

From my point of view... Metadata management stills has LOTS of room for improvement.

So far my favorite "mismatch" is when I put a folder called "Kids Stuff" into our main folder for viewing.  I dumped a bunch of kids shows in there.

Kodi (not Emby) picked it up as Killer Kids

My kids were SO confused and wondering why I wanted them to watch shows about kids killing people.

I hate to beat a dead horse but I like to save Youtube videos and for some reason my mixed content it decides automagically what it should be (way wrong though) and a way to sever individual things would be great in this use case but its probably too hard to incorporate.
