Never ending spinning circle

Was there an Android app update in the past few days?  I was having problems with the app about a week ago.  When I was trying to connect outside of my wifi (inside my wifi network it worked fine). I'd run the app, it would connect (seemed like it), then I'd get the never ending spinning circle.  No images would show up, but I could slide from the different categories (Favorites, Latest, Next Up, Resume, etc...), but all I get is the spinning circle.  Then on the 20th there was a server update 3.0.5588, which listed an external streaming issue, and my app started working again.

I went to use the app today, and I'm back to getting the never ending spinning circle after connecting.

Plus, I just noticed on my server dashboard, it says I connected as a LGE LG-D850, that isn't my phone or description.

The app is version 2.2.31, I'm running the app on a Samsung S3 (SGH-T999), Android 4.3.

I wanted to let you know what I've found out.  Last week I was talking with a friend of mine, and had him log onto my server with his phone (he has a LG D850).  I was talking with him today and it turns out that he was now having the same never ending spinning circle.

I cleared my data/cache from the app on my phone, re-logged in and mine was up and running.  My friend had to do the same and re-login to his server, then he was up and running again.  For some reason the app has issues when trying to connect to multiple servers or something.

I get this pretty much each day I use it. Clearing data and reentering my server information fixes this, but I have to do each day it seems.

Same here. Have to do this multiple times a day sometimes. Minimum daily.

Can confirm that the app works fine when on LAN and it is only when operating over WAN that there is an issue.

I have tested using another Android and an iOS device and they seem to work fine across WAN. So I don't think this is a server issue.

I am having this same problem, I have no issues when I am connecting from my home wifi.  I only see this issue when trying to connect externally.  If i wipe/uninstall the Android app and reconfigure it, it works for about the rest of that day? then I am affected by the same spinning circle of death~!

Here is a link to screenshots & my logs.  https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7uutr48dxzs4i03/AAACCU4dgYsJAp1nDDn0diUFa?dl=0

This issue seems to be affecting 3 out of 4 of my Android phones.

     - Samsung S4 (Stock Android 4.0?)  - constant spinning circle; resolved with a wipe/reinstall of app but only temporary; requires constant wiping

     - Samsung S5 (Stock Android 5.x) - constant spinning circle; resolved with a wipe/reinstall of app but only temporary; requires constant wiping

     - Samsung Note Edge (Stock Android 4.4.4) - constant spinning circle; resolved with a wipe/reinstall of app but only temporary; requires constant wiping

-- 2 Dropbox Screenshots:  Manage Servers shows WAN & LAN address until phone is affected by this issue; at which it begins to show the WAN address 2x

-- Logs included in Dropbox folder

     - Samsung S4 (Custom GPE Android 5.0.1) - works just fine

-- 1 Dropbox Screenshot:  Manage Servers shows WAN & LAN address constantly

-- Logs included in Dropbox folder

Safe to say this might possibly be related to Stock Samsung phones and/or devices?
Wonder if it has to do with multiple Samsung devices connecting to the server?

Emby Server:  3.0.5597.1 (fresh install but used backup plugin to restore some data)

     - mostly standard settings

     - some custom css (removing this today to troubleshoot)

     - system.xml changes

-- SystemUpdateLevel=Release (matches GUI as well)

-- AutoUpdate=false (because my server kept updating with beta builds even though 'Release' is specified)

     - much more cautious of updates on server & android side now due to issues

-- Android & Chromecast playback issues (fixed)

-- Browser playback never transcodes (fixed)

-- Connecting to server from Android (current)

FEATURE REQUESTS

      - create easy method for server rollbacks and/or archived builds so that we can get back to a stable state in the event of these types of issues

      - archived versions of Android (TV) apks to roll back our Android apps to get back to stable builds in the event of these types of issues

EDIT 1:  added entry about issue possibly being related to Stock Samsung Phones

EDIT 2:  specified my exact issues at the top

I have same problem on Galaxy S3 but toggling wifi off also solves it. Maybe it thinks I'm on home network still and trying internal ip.

I also stumbled across this as I have been experiencing the exact same thing and worked out that a 'Clear Data' seems to resolve it.

I've noticed others have posted their logs already, is this being looked currently @@Luke ?

I've noticed this for a while as well, here's what's happening when you try connecting on the WAN side of your server (according to the debug app log):

-on first connection (e.g. with a clean data cache on your android device) everything goes swimmingly, the indicated server is reached, you can login, the server recognizes that you are on the WAN instead of the LAN (e.g. everything works)

-Close the app, try opening it back up:  A connection with the server is made, but this time it doesn't seem to want to use the 'external address' that is set in the server config, it insists that you're on the LAN, and therefore tries to use the internal address (e.g. 192.168.1.xxx, or similar).

-The app/server never seems to timeout, and it literally will sit there forever, until you clear your app's data cache.

Somehow it seems that app is incorrectly telling the server (or the server sets a flag in the app?) to default to the internal LAN address.

Frustrating, but the workaround is fairly simple (as you all have found out).

Hopefully the devs are well on the way to a solution.  I would try and provide troubleshooting data but it appears that is not needed at this point.
