Fresh new client design for Roku?

First I want to say thank you for all the hard work done by developers and the continued support you have given.

My question is simple, is there any plans to refresh the Roku client with a more modern design such as what Plex has done with their new plexpass preview client? The new Plex client has been redesigned from the ground up with all brand new custom screens. The client now looks the same as it does on other hardware and gone are the typical Roku screens we always see. I was wondering if emby was going to follow suit?

That's great news, Emby is my preferred client.

I will be really looking forward to this and hopefully we have something by the time the Roku 4 is unveiled. Although God knows when that will be.

Thanks!

Is a Roku client refresh still planned?  If so, any idea of when development will start?

Please release the new Emby Theater client before assigning resources to this one.  ;)

Yes a Roku refresh is happening and will be based on Roku's newly announced Scene Graph SDK, which opens up a lot of new design possibilities. The SDK itself is only in beta, so that will need to be released to the public with firmware updates deployed before the new Roku app can run on your devices. They have not given a timetable on that.

If you would like people to test any changes before you send out the new one I would be willing to test on a roku 3 and a roku stick.

I see something interesting on roku's developer page. In application management, in addition to the usual HD and SD is now an FHD poster?? Hmm.. Things that make you go hmmm.. Someone (who did the others?) needs to create an FHD "emby on roku store" poster now. But this has to mean good things with higher resolutions. No tech/news sites have caught this yet. Proof firmware 7.x and roku4 is close?[emoji14] Just thought I'd make everyone here aware. :)

Are there any plans to change the Roku interface?  The interface is very limiting and the layout leaves a lot to be desired.  I'm sure there are limitations brought on by the Roku design, but if it were more like the web interface it would be great.

I'm not a coder but, is there any way to have the Roku take the user to the web interface directly? My son's PS4 has a web browser and he signs in with emby connect and goes directly to the web interface.  Which is a much cleaner interface, just saying...

Have you tried @@speechles's Blue Neon Night for Roku theme on your Roku?

That is the same layout with garish colors.

Perhaps you didnt realize you can the change colors of any text? The reason the images are that way is too make them "high contrast". So it is easy to read and use.The official client uses monchrome that makes it hard to read and use. You have to get closer to screen to tell things apart. It is hard to read grey text on a grey background when the two shades of grey are near identical.

The limitations of the official app that the fellow speaks of are addressed. The app allows "almost everything" you can see and do from the web client...and.. of all clients, the search is top notch, the best of any.

I thought the question from the OP was "are there any plans to change the roku interface"?

Now unfortunately the person most qualified to answer this chose to deflect the question with another question (politician tactics), so I would take that as being a "No, nothing planned".

Incidentally, if you are to use either the official version or the blue neon version, the second one is far more feature rich. It does however have almost the exact basic layout as 99.8976543214567 % of the other roku apps that use the standard layout tools provided by roku.

It was actually just a curious question since i haven't seen emby theater on ps4 yet. We have stated in other threads that we will be looking to start utilizing roku's new scene graph sdk.

Thanks Luke I appreciate the update and I hadn't tried the new theme.  I'll check it out. I always remind myself that change is a process and  I'm loving what you guys are doing.
