in that log there are no video requests which means either the wrong log was posted or it never reached the server at all. i've tested in every major browser and i can't reproduce. try different browsers for testing purposes. or try removing your ddns from the equation to see if it makes a difference.

It seems that it does it with some and not others, For example I watch one show and the next never loads. It's strange because I have converted everything in my library with DIVX Plus to mkv - all were encoded the same with 16:9 aspect ratio, resolution was determined by the original file size (4:3 shows and movies were converted to 16:9). Will try that and see, it's odd though because those exact files work perfectly fine in both Android and Kodi - both of which are configured with DDNS. I should point out that this is Chrome, and this has been tested on both the server and my laptop. Also, the things and do and don't play are not the same on both devices, Broly The Legendary Super Saiyan will load on my laptop, not my server. I'll try IE just for giggles and report back, thanks for the responses.

Edit. Same results. Used ddns and local IP address in IE.

Edit 2: Two more.

I am running into the exact same issue on my server as well. As Luke said, the server is never firing an ffmpeg process. Even weirder, another file encoded identically (same codec, bitrate, etc) will play just fine. It seems to be a random issue.

I just enabled debug logging and have posted the log here:http://tny.cz/2c6122d6.

I attempted to play a variety of videos. The second attempt was the only one that worked. Veronica Mars S01E12

EDIT: This problem ONLY happens with the web client. Android mobile works just fine.

And the problem may lie with cloud sync...at least for me.

I have set that series to sync the next five unwatched videos. The one video that plays is the only one that is synced at the moment. The other videos are both ones that haven't yet been synced but are marked as queued.

I don't think it's related. It could be but your issue sounds exactly like mine, and I don't have sync.

Just an update, I can confirm that the issue does NOT lie with not uploaded cloud sync videos.

Any news on this?

In my case it looks like all recordings from one (or two?) brodcaster is failing, other recordings and movies are Ok.

I'm having almost this exact issue with the previous version actually (3.0.5641.4), but I'm almost certain it has to do with clients' ability to connect to whatever is being utilized aside from the listed Emby port - the reason I say this is because only some of my users (even ones on the exact same browser builds...) experience this and some don't. Also, my Plex is getting this issue as well for these users.. they can browse around fine in both web interfaces, but playback is just a black screen, and it occurs across multiple platforms and browsers.. I tried...:

  • turning off firewalls and having no active virus or malware scanners running
  • making sure it had an exception for both the port and Emby when firewall is enabled
  • updating graphics/etc drivers (not sure why this would matter but might as well since nothing could play anyway..)
  • making sure the files themselves could play in a browser (by loading it locally)
  • removing all plugins and additional changes from default Emby setup
  • playing both direct stream and transcoding required files (direct stream = h264 .mp4, transcoding required = Xvid .avi)
  • running Emby server with both normal and "administrator" rights
  • checking the problem web clients' version versus known working versions
  • checking with the problem browsers completely devoid of any extensions or plugins
  • having the web clients in question get a new API key
  • having the problem browsers do both a page and a full cache clean
  • tried cache clean on my server
  • uninstalled and reinstalled my server
  • tried with both DDNS enabled and disabled
  • tried both manual and uPnP port forwarding
  • I even tried removing every windows update that had installed since this started happening

...and still no idea :( it's happening to 3 of the 5 users I've asked about it so far, so it's not just one user's "problem" browser install, the fact that some users can still play stuff (the same stuff even..) just fine on the same browser version/type just boggles my mind.
