MEB 26 Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Every MKV I play lately has been transcoded instead of direct play. MP4 direct plays just fine. Channel is set to 30Mbps, on a wired network. I have them all shared correctly because both the mp4 and mkv are in the same main shared folder. I have the roku 3 so it is capable of directly playing them. I have tried the non beta channel and the beta channel and get the same results. I added the log for both a tv show and a movie that was being transcoded. I need it to direct play because I get errors with transcoded stuff where at the end of the show the video will jump back a few minutes and start playing from that point. rblackhaw 3 Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 I'm no expert and someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but both of your examples show mkv files with ac3 audio. Roku only supports aac audio which is why they transcode. I use XMedia Recode on all of my mkv and mp4 files that have ac3 audio. You can copy the video without changing it and convert the audio to aac and keep the ac3 for passthrough for receivers that can play ac3. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CBers 6766 Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 My MKV videos with AC3 transcode to AAC so that the Roku plays them. Video is direct play. I also get the jump back issue which has been around for several server releases without resolution. I know it's going to happen, so I just back out and watch the next video I want. It's a pain, but I can live with it for the time being/until it's fixed. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I hit OK when playing back and it just says "Transcode AAC" If its transcoding the audio wont it actually be doing the audio and video? I just hate hitting my server with ffmpeg all the time when I have game servers running it hurts their performance. I guess it might be time to drop using the roku and build a htpc. MEB 26 Posted April 15, 2015 Author Share Posted April 15, 2015 Look at the transcode log on the server. An audio only transcode takes very little resources. So, looking at the logs i posted it looks like its doing both. So any other ideas how to get my Roku 3 to only transcode the audio? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
CBers 6766 Posted April 15, 2015 Share Posted April 15, 2015 Check the transcode log. It should say something like: Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (ac3 (native) -> aac (native)) There's another thread about these issues here: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/19362-loading-please-wait-at-the-end-of-playback/ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

MEB 26 Posted April 15, 2015 Author Share Posted April 15, 2015 (edited) nothing to do with that. and whenever you see codec:copy the the throttling is not used anyway. But i didn't see codec:copy until i disabled throttling, that was the only thing I changed since my first logs in the OP. idk why but it just works now.. Ill stop touching settings, for now. Here is the same video as OP log. http://192.168.1.101:999/mediabrowser/videos/c5555e4e1bb17c929bc3bce2b0491d0b/hlsdynamic/main/0.ts?DeviceId=1GN38D105419&MediaSourceId=c5555e4e1bb17c929bc3bce2b0491d0b&VideoCodec=h264&AudioCodec=aac&AudioStreamIndex=1&VideoBitrate=29872000&AudioBitrate=128000&MaxAudioChannels=2&MaxFramerate=30&MaxWidth=1920&MaxHeight=1080&Level=41&ClientTime=635647169225523674&MaxRefFrames=12&MaxVideoBitDepth=8&Profile=high&PlaySessionId=9430b82552384f3592c053bdc99dd7b0&api_key=09d95d7d73cd4ad1993aa357019493a3 C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\ffmpeg\20150331\ffmpeg.exe -fflags +genpts -i file:"D:\TV\Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D\Season 2\Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S02E17 - Melinda.mkv" -map_metadata -1 -threads 0 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -map -0:s -codec:v:0 copy -bsf:v h264_mp4toannexb -flags -global_header -copyts -sc_threshold 0 -codec:a:0 aac -strict experimental -ac 2 -ab 128000 -af "adelay=1,aresample=async=1,volume=1" -hls_time 3 -start_number 0 -hls_list_size 0 -y "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\transcoding-temp\0f213d5d991b0db52424de38f21083a8.m3u8" ffmpeg version N-71182-g5cba529 Copyright © 2000-2015 the FFmpeg developers built with gcc 4.9.2 (GCC) configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-version3 --disable-w32threads --enable-avisynth --enable-bzlib --enable-fontconfig --enable-frei0r --enable-gnutls --enable-iconv --enable-libass --enable-libbluray --enable-libbs2b --enable-libcaca --enable-libdcadec --enable-libfreetype --enable-libgme --enable-libgsm --enable-libilbc --enable-libmodplug --enable-libmp3lame --enable-libopencore-amrnb --enable-libopencore-amrwb --enable-libopenjpeg --enable-libopus --enable-librtmp --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libsoxr --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libtwolame --enable-libvidstab --enable-libvo-aacenc --enable-libvo-amrwbenc --enable-libvorbis --enable-libvpx --enable-libwavpack --enable-libwebp --enable-libx264 --enable-libx265 --enable-libxavs --enable-libxvid --enable-lzma --enable-decklink --enable-zlib libavutil 54. 21.100 / 54. 21.100 libavcodec 56. 32.100 / 56. 32.100 libavformat 56. 27.100 / 56. 27.100 libavdevice 56. 4.100 / 56. 4.100 libavfilter 5. 13.101 / 5. 13.101 libswscale 3. 1.101 / 3. 1.101 libswresample 1. 1.100 / 1. 1.100 libpostproc 53. 3.100 / 53. 3.100 Input #0, matroska,webm, from 'file:D:\TV\Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D\Season 2\Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - S02E17 - Melinda.mkv': Metadata: encoder : mkv2rls x264-tv version built on 2015. febr. 22 Duration: 00:42:14.99, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 3299 kb/s Stream #0:0(eng): Video: h264 (High), yuv420p, 1278x710, SAR 1:1 DAR 9:5, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 1k tbn, 47.95 tbc (default) Stream #0:1(eng): Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 384 kb/s (default) Stream #0:2(eng): Subtitle: subrip (default) Metadata: title : English Output #0, hls, to 'C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\transcoding-temp\0f213d5d991b0db52424de38f21083a8.m3u8': Metadata: encoder : Lavf56.27.100 Stream #0:0: Video: h264, yuv420p, 1278x710 [sAR 1:1 DAR 9:5], q=2-31, 23.98 fps, 23.98 tbr, 90k tbn, 23.98 tbc (default) Stream #0:1: Audio: aac, 48000 Hz, stereo, fltp, 128 kb/s (default) Metadata: encoder : Lavc56.32.100 aac Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (ac3 (native) -> aac (native)) Press [q] to stop, [?] for help frame= 504 fps=0.0 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:00:21.16 bitrate=N/A frame= 983 fps=983 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:00:41.13 bitrate=N/A frame= 1464 fps=976 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:01:01.29 bitrate=N/A frame= 1975 fps=987 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:01:22.60 bitrate=N/A frame= 2473 fps=989 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:01:43.38 bitrate=N/A frame= 2996 fps=999 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:02:04.97 bitrate=N/A frame= 3496 fps=999 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:02:26.00 bitrate=N/A frame= 4017 fps=1004 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:02:47.63 bitrate=N/A frame= 4506 fps=1001 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:03:07.86 bitrate=N/A frame= 5008 fps=1002 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:03:29.10 bitrate=N/A frame= 5517 fps=1003 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:03:50.18 bitrate=N/A frame= 6038 fps=1006 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:04:12.07 bitrate=N/A frame= 6557 fps=1009 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:04:33.62 bitrate=N/A frame= 7083 fps=1012 q=-1.0 size=N/A time=00:04:55.59 bitrate=N/A frame= 7420 fps=1012 q=-1.0 Lsize=N/A time=00:05:09.56 bitrate=N/A video:125767kB audio:4848kB subtitle:0kB other streams:0kB global headers:0kB muxing overhead: unknown Edited April 15, 2015 by MEB Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

dnicks 25 Posted April 21, 2015 Share Posted April 21, 2015 I'm on 2.03 as of right now, not sure if it's in one of the files. I usually just load it up and scroll down to "preferences" and it says the version number there. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

danergo 28 Posted August 22, 2015 Share Posted August 22, 2015 However, now I find myself in a strange situation. I've downloaded a fullHD movie. It's an mkv with dts audio (h264 and dca, if I'm not mistaken). And I can't convince Emby to not transcode it but send directly. Even in the transcode log it seems that directplay is allowed: http://pastebin.com/1473RfW4 For directplay in my profile there is: Container: mkv Video Codec: h264 Audio Codec: aac,ac3,mp3,dca,dts For Codecs removed everything to not have any conditions. Max streaming bitrate is set to 30Mbps. This mkv needs about 12-15Mbps. I also did another test: I copied the movie onto an USB stick to check if the TV is able to play this at all. It was able to do that smoothly. What do you think, why Emby wants to transcode my mkv? Thank you, Best Regards Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
