Emby update DB while playing?

Could you add an option to update while something is playing? When I'm watching shows back to back the db never gets updated & I end up having to restart Kodi & wait for the sync if I want to watch something newly added.

Not unless I restart Kodi or it's sits idle for a long time. I'm rebuilding the DB now... noticed a news show doesn't even show up in Kodi too. It's on the Emby server & shows up in the web view but not in Kodi. It shows there's something unwatched but when you open it.. it's empty.

Capture of Kodi in this show's folder ontop of the web view.

A DB wipe did seem to fix it. Syncing again now I think. But... shows with no tvdb link are all now showing as empty folders in Kodi. I thought it was just one show but I noticed 2 other folders that are also showing empty too. Another news show I recored & a show that's not actually out yet "Salem Rogers Model of the Year 1998" that has no tvdb entry yet.

OK, I lied... it's still not adding things while playing videos. If you look at the logs, The Big Bang Theory & Powers (2015) were added to the server (around line 896) but never added to the Kodi data base. A total of 6 shows where added while I was watching others. None were ever added to the database. A restart of Kodi is the only way to add em in.

I ended up putting the "news" shows into a "movie" folder since they are back to not showing up too. I found the cool feature in the titan skin of smart playlists & went wild making myself new smart folders with that. I'd like them to be back in the tv shows area tho.

Some added info & new log.

It does sync up after you stop watching things, usually. It's sat for a couple hours before with out doing it but seems to usually do the full sync when it's idle. Big library so it takes 10 mins till it gets it all. If I start playing something it stops the sync. If I let it run the full 10 mins it'll add the new things into the database. While playing... nothing ever gets added to the database at all.

Log with it not adding things to the database while watching somethings & then letting it do a full sync before watching something else.

There seems to be maybe a bug with the metadata scraping in Emby server. Can you make sure the episodes that are not being added to Kodi library are actually added/scraped correctly with season and episode in Emby server? Thanks :)

I copied the install over to another computer & it syncs fine when it's not playing something. So while the one playing didn't add things to the database the one not playing (exact same install) did add them to the database. I was using the 2nd install to see when things where added so I could restart the one I was watching so the thing I wanted to watch would get added. Or stop & let it run thru the sync process but that didn't always start up right away so a restart was faster.

Long story short.. doesn't look like it's a problem with the server since the exact copy works while not playing anything while the one playing something does not. The info shows up right with pilot & all info on the one that synced too. So.. they seem to be added/scraped just fine on the server.

I do have a Doctor Who show that pops up from time to time in the log with a plot that will not sync as a side note. I believe it shows up in one of them logs again.

Thanks very much for testing.  There was a typo - can you please test again now?

sure.. don't have anything new to add for awhile tho.

Actually some new stuff that shouldn't have downloaded is downloading so new stuff will be added to my server soon. *shakes fist at flexget*

Nope... still not working. I have no idea why my media scans are taking like an hour now too. Wonder if it's from putting all the weird tv shows under a movie type folder.

Yeah, not sure.  It is working for me.. Please do some more controlled test - ie:

1. Close Kodi

2. Play something

3. Add or delete a fake file

4. Wait a bit

Thanks,

I think I'm going to do a full re install of the server actually. It's taking over an hour to do a library scan so... something seems off now. Currently seeing if I can move the server install folder to some place more accessible to me instead of where it is. Making a backup first tho. :-)

I'll test it again after I mess all this up & fix it. Hate where the install is... can't get to the logs easy.

Okay - yeah probably shouldn't but random stuff in a folder and label it 'Movies' - just call it home video or something.

I can't find a way to get them to show up in Kodi under home videos. Unless that was added?

No - they won't.  I would just add them as a normal Kodi file path since you are getting metadata for them anyway.

Problem with that is I loose what's been watched or not. Only data I care about is watched status for those files. I watch em from the web client as well as in Kodi. The Emby Server keeping track of them is the only way to keep me sane. :-p

What is preventing you from creating correct directory structures? There are plenty of tools for that...

I have 3 folders that just don't play well with others:

News shows - 3 local news shows record with PVRNEXT. It doesn't name things well for news shows & I delete them after they are watched.

Pilots -  folder is just pilots & some preair mini shows so... every singe one would have to be looked up put in a folder structure & all that just to be deleted after it's watched. If I like the show I'll build the folder structure in the regular tv shows folder. I let it go for awhile & I had over 600 shows in that folder... had a pilot watching day. :-) but it gets heavy usage.

Other - a big folder of random news, science, nature, one time things & any other wild whim I have. They some times don't even have a tvdb entry & looking them all up would be next to impossible. I watch stuff from this folder daily. Great to fall asleep to a boring show. Right now that folder has over 1000 items in it. Some are full seasons of things, others are just in the folder as is. It's way to random to keep it organized. With out the hidden seen items, it's a mess to search thru.

I haven't even tried to get the random videos from my phone & things into the library yet.

As a side note... I have a big library of videos on a 23tb pooled drive. Almost 200 current tv shows, dozen ended tv shows from start to end & over 1000 movies, that I keep in structured directories & almost entirely in 1080p. I may have a bit of a video packrat problem. :-)

oh... & to top all that off.. I have it totally automated to keep filling these folders as soon as an item pops up with the use of flexget. So there is constantly new stuff popping up all the time. Quite a bit never gets past the first minute & gets deleted, others get watched or at least played in the background. All this has been running for years with me updating & adding to it.

Basically right now this Kodi addon can't support your setup.  You would be better off with the old one.  It will be quite a while 'till we get around to supporting more .... interesting configurations (4-6 weeks).
