Jobber8742 9
I'm running Server Version 3.0.5557.30000. Log is attached. I've been having an issue the past couple of days where some of my TV Episodes don't seem to be generating episode images. All these folders seem to be in a mixed folder and are TV shows that I have created and aren't on thetvdb.com. It doesn't seem to have any sort of pattern in creating these images, it creates some, and doesn't create others. MB is correctly identifying the TV Series as a TV Series. It also doesn't seem to be putting the episode numbers on these files. For example, I had the file named S02E12 for the file with no picture in the picture below, but it didn't recognize it as Season 2 Episode 12, I had to add that into the metadata to get it to work. This isn't the only folder that this is occurring in, just an example. Edit: It also appears to be failing on some special features in my Movies folder as well. For example, I just loaded 2 special features into a movie, it extracted the image for one, but not the other. Both were loaded at the same time. server-63563183999.txt Edited March 29, 2015 by Jobber8742

crashkelly 62
Hi, I could be totally wrong on this, but I do not think what you are looking at is extracted from the show itself, but rather downloaded from a metadata provider such as the themoviedb.org or thetvdb.com. You can out this by looking in your server config at METADATA >> SERVICES. When I check themoviedb.org there is no poster available, yet, for the WWE Hall of Fame 2015. Thanks CrashKelly

Thanks CrashKelly That is the case for some shows, but this if an episode doesn't have an image in the database, Emby will create one. This is a bit different than that though, this isn't in thetvdb at all. I made the TV Show format for this and entered all the metadata by hand. The images that are there were extracted from the files.
ebr 14903
What happens if you refresh it?
Jobber8742 9
What happens if you refresh it? The individual episodes? Nothing changes. It's hard to tell if it's actually attempting to refresh though with the new refresh system. I think it would be helpful if you guys would add like a prompt that says "Refresh Complete" or something like that if you refresh a single item. Edit: I think think it's recognizing the files as videos for some reason now that I look at it more. Just ran into the issue with special features on a show I just put on the system. See picture below. All the features are in the same format and I can play them in windows media player, but emby will only play the files with the extracted pictures. I've attached the transcode error I get for them. Another think I noticed that may be a coincidence, but all the files that are having issues are in the mp4 video format. Not all mp4 videos are having the problem, but it seems that the only files having the issue are mp4 videos. Scratch that, I have one mkv that is doing the same thing, must be because I've only added mostly mp4 videos recently. This is a very recent problem. transcode-5282fce0-79fd-45f0-b09e-0dc36d5e617c.txt Edited March 31, 2015 by Jobber8742
Happy2Play 8242
You could look at your log file at the time you performed the refresh.
Jobber8742 9
I seem to have trouble playing any of these problem files as well as other problem files in the web client as well, but they play fine in the media browser theater or classic clients. For example below, the S1996E01 file below worked fine in the past, now when I hit refresh, it lost the file and all it's metadata that I had entered. I cannot play it or any other of the episodes in the web client, but they all work in theater and classic. Edit: Also confirmed working in the iPad client, so transcoding itself doesn't seem to be the issue. I have tested the we browser on two separate computers with the same results as well. Jobber8742 9
Hate being a bother, but any ideas on why it is doing this? I'd love to get it working correctly again.
Luke 37009
try refreshing one of the affected videos manually using the metadata manager, then post the server log. thanks. keep in mind we do depend on ffmpeg for video image extraction and occasionally it does fail for some files. Jobber8742 9
I did as requested, but it doesn't appear like the log even acknowledges that I tried. It's attached. Sure, I'd expect a failure every now and then, it's just that this isn't just one file, it's been like 50% of what I've added in the past week. I've had a hiccup here and there in the past, like 1 or 2 out of thousands, but not like this. Straight movies in mkv format in the Movies folder seem to all load fine. TV show episodes in the TV folder seem fine. TV shows episodes that I created or are in mixed library seem to cause an issue. As do movies in a mixed library. Special features on movies in the Movies library also seem to be causing an issue. It seems to me that the errors are occuring on folders inside of folders, i.e. a folder is inside a library set as TV, Movie, or nothing. TV content type folders only have TV shows. Movie content type folders only have movies. The folder in the picture below, for example though is set as inherit and has both. This is the folder that the example I gave in the first picture is in. This isn't the only folder or the only library that is having issues though. Folders set as TV shows content type are also having issues. As are special features inside the Movie Library, which is just a Movie content type as opposed to mixed, so it doesn't seem to just be a mixed content type issue. server-63563529600.txt Edited April 2, 2015 by Jobber8742

I don't really see anything different in the log than before though, so not sure if it will help or not. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0locxm9thmddxo7/server-63563529600.txt?dl=0 I just discovered that it is doing the same thing in my TV shows library. The issue doesn't seem to be the extraction of pictures like I thought. It's that it's not recognizing the video file information. I didn't notice before. Here's a picture of a file and an updated log. Hope you can help me figure out what is causing this issue. server-63563720507.txt
Jobber8742 9
Any ideas from anyone why these videos are having trouble being recognized by Emby? They are playable on the clients, but aren't being recognized by the server as shown in the picture in the post above.
thefirstofthe300 291
I am having the exact same issue with some episodes. However, it only seems to happen with episodes that came out the same day. (Added some episodes that came out a few years ago and everything worked great.) Maybe it has something to do with not having any episode metadata on TheTVDB? Plex doesn't seem to have any issues so it is definitely in the server. Logs: Part 1: http://hastebin.com/obaqipogij Part 2: http://hastebin.com/ifikesagoh Episode refreshing takes place in Part 2. Well I'm having issues with some shows that aren't on TheTVDB at all, they are shows I created. Not all of them are causing problems, but some are. I'm really bummed that no one seems to have any suggestions to fix my issue. If I delete the program and re-install will it fix anything and will it retain my watched status'? Happy2Play 8242
If I delete the program and re-install will it fix anything and will it retain my watched status'? You will need to save the database files listed in the "How to Migrate" thread or use the Server backup plugin. Sean Forester 1
I recently had the same issue. http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/20095-newly-added-tv-episodes-taking-a-long-time-to-play-via-dlna-play-to/ But I noticed the issue because it was causing DLNA play-to to work very very slowly. It looks like the server was not extracting media info for newly added episodes. After reading this thread, I decided to try removing my TV folder from my TV library. I then re-added it and had it rescan. Everything is now working correctly. I even just added a new episode to make sure it was still working after the initial scan and database rebuild. Everything looks good. I can't even speculate on what the issue might have been considering it seems to have kept the previous database, i.e., my watched/favorited/etc metadata is all still there. Anyway, hope this helps.

So I tried removing the whole library and deleting the metadata .xml file for the problem files, then added the library and folder back and still nothing changed. Jobber8742 9
I'm still having this issue. Did want to add that I've noticed that my library scan always seems to hang for like 15 min at about 50% then moves on. Not sure if this is causing anything or not, but thought that I'd add it. I really hope to solve this issue soon. I've attached an updated log for reference. server-63564728109.txt
Luke 37009
what's the issue? it looks like it ran for \\MEDIASERVER-PC\Media\Media\Video\TV Shows\Criminal Minds\Season 10\S10E20.mp4 Also your scan took almost exactly 10 minutes so i don't see any 15 minute stall in there.
