Ian Easson 0
I am a MB2 user who is trying out MB3 to see if I should move to it. One of the first thing I noticed was the MB3 Theater does not display any information for a movie or TV show on the actors (including pictures), directors, or studios. Is there a way to enable this? Thanks in advance.
Maleficarum 68
MBT shows cast just fine for me. It may take a while for an actors picture to replace the default image as they are downloaded by a scheduled task and I believe there is a limit to how many it can grab a day. Have you switched on the download metadata from the internet option in the server settings ? Edited January 8, 2015 by Maleficarum
blade005 172
Ian, Where is your ImagesByName folder located? Can you see any of this information from the Web Client? If you are just moving to MB3 you may need to check to see that the MB Server is pointed to where you have these images located. I moved to MB3 quite awhile back, but I think I remember that I may have had to move all of the Image information into the MB Server path location from where it was located in the MB2 Version. WEB DASHBOARD -- SERVER -- SYSTEM PATHS will show you where the MB Server is looking for certain information to be displayed.
Ian Easson 0
Hi,. My first thought was that the Images by Name folder had changed locations since MB2. I found this out, and also discovered how to make it point to my old MB2 ImagesByName. But my problem is not just that the actor images are not present. It's that this is *no* listing of actors at all (and hence no images!), no listing of director, no listing of studio. I do get a title and a description, as well as genres and ratings. Ian Easson 0
One more piece of information: No, I don't turn on the download metadata from the internet option in the server settings, because I have a full set of metadata (including actor, director, and studio) in my media files that I've run under MB2. I used metabrowser for the last few years to populate this information. What I need is for MB3 Theater to display this information.
Maleficarum 68
Hmm as long as your metadata uses accepted names (mb2 format is still supported) it should be working fine. Can you show an example folder ? Does the information show in the server ? Edited January 8, 2015 by Maleficarum

Ian Easson 0
MB3 is not showing images for any actors at all (and I have tons of images, believe me). And, besides, where is the info about the directors and studios? Thanks in advance, Ian
Luke 36997
It is IBN/People like MB2 however the directory structure has changed a little, which is why your MB2 images are not being seen. There are now letter prefixes IBN/People/G/George Clooney
Ian Easson 0
Two questions, then: (1) What do I do to migrate my MB2 images to MB3? Tediously and manually copy them, taking care what their names are? (2) How does this explain the lack of info on directors and studios? Thanks in advance. Luke 36997
directors are people just like actors. MBT is currently not displaying the studio.
Ian Easson 0
OK, I get that no studio is being displayed (although this would be nice). But why does MB3 not display any people info at all? (Even after I have manually moved my ImagesByName data to the new structure?

This could probably be done with a batch script. I haven't fiddled with anything like this for sometime, but you would just need a for loop that looks at the first letter of the folder, and moves it to a folder containing that letter. Luke 36997
make sure to run the refresh people scheduled task in the server dashboard. for the vast majority of users this is something they don't need to worry about because it just runs in the background. since you're a different program for your metadata, it's a bit more manual
Ian Easson 0
Thanks for the vague hint, but like other commentators on this topic, there is no help on how to access this obscure feature. The top level menu says: - Server - Devices - Users , etc. Which of these menu items do I choose? And, having chosen it, which submenu do I choose, and so on? (There seems to be no info on this in any FAQ or wiki!) Edited January 9, 2015 by Ian Easson
swhitmore 781
Thanks for the vague hint, but like other commentators on this topic, there is no help on how to access this obscure feature. Just remember, everyone here is just trying to help, and is doing so on their own time. To get to the refresh people scheduled task, select advanced > scheduled task > refresh people. Then hit the run icon.
Ian Easson 0
Hey, that seems to have worked. I can now see a "cast" choice in my movies, and when I click on it, it now shows the cast and their images. Where can I see the "Directors" though?. Please understand, I am coming from MB2 and my assumption is that things that work straightforwardly in it will also work straightforwardly in MB3. swhitmore 781
Please understand, I am coming from MB2 and my assumption is that things that work straightforwardly in it will also work straightforwardly in MB3. MB3 has evolved A LOT since the days of MB2, so it's fair to expect that some things will not work the same. Many steps were taken to make the upgrade process as painless as possible, but with the software being near completely rewritten, there will be some manual work required. Having said that, it's definitely worth the effort. MB3 is a huge generational leap forward in terms of functionality.
ebr 14902
Directors, I believe, are shown as a part of "Cast and Crew".
Ian Easson 0
I see no "Cast and Crew" at all in MB3. All I see is "Cast". Do you see otherwise?
audiophile42 0
i believe for aesthetic purposes MBT might be filtering and only showing people that have images. i'll have to check Luke - can you confirm that MBT filters out cast and crew if there are no images? I have some movies where there are no downloaded images for cast, the cast and crew show up in the web view, but there is no tab for cast for the same movie in MBT to click on to see the cast. If that's the case - first it would explain what I've been seeing. Second - is there a setting or a parameter in a config file I can change to reflect all cast and crew in the MBT view, even if there is no corresponding image or folder for the person in imagesbyname? Sorry for digging up an old thread, but this was the only piece of info I found on the topic after searching for a bit. Thanks!
flexkikr 5
I'm in the same boat with audiophile42 After moving from Emby Classic over to Theater, noticed the cast tab is not visible at all. Even the subtitle button is greyed out but have different language subtitles for each movies (.mkv). I was looking for a settings on a server to enable it but unable to find it. See screenshot attached. Edited August 17, 2015 by flexkikr
