heula 189
For my book collection I want to set the view menu for all folders as posterwall with Summary on in Square theme. When I change this setting in a random folder of a book I expect MBC to take over that setting for all folders at that level but it doesn't. I need to set that setting for each folder. My collection of books is very large so you can understand how much work that will be and if I need to set that for each user it's going to cost me to much time to do that. I have had this discussion before with ebr but why isn't MBC taking over this setting for all folders at that same level? For series and Movies that is just working fine, so why not for all categories? This discussion back then was about the the view menu for photo folders. So for example: Writer folders - if set the first one to view menu "List with Summary on" I want that setting for all writer folders. (This is working) Book folders - if set the first one to view menu "Posterwall with Summary on" I want that setting for all writer folders. (This is not working) Hope this explains what I want. Can this be "fixed" or changed for photos and books and perhaps more categories? edit: This line in the config file <DefaultViewType>CoverFlow</DefaultViewType> is not respected by Square so that is no longer an option to use. I think ebr already knows this. Edited October 8, 2014 by heula
ebr 14903
As we have discussed before generic folders all have individual display preferences because the system has no way of knowing there is any logical relationship between them. With things like series and seasons, we know what they are so we can save display preferences for those types of items. But a folder full of books is no different to the system than a folder full of movies so there isn't any "level" for us to save preferences for. You have a logical structure of writers and books but the system has no way of knowing that or of discerning the difference between that and your individual folder organization for photos or movies or whatever. And, that structure is unique to you - someone else will organize them differently. The only way I can see that we could make this behave the way you want is if there were a defined supported structure for these things (like music, for instance) so that we could identify them. heula 189
If there is any way to get all book folders, photo folders at the same level to have the same setting I have set for one at that level I'm all in for it.
ebr 14903
I'll have to think on if there is anything MBC can do to facilitate that...
heula 189
I'll have to think on if there is anything MBC can do to facilitate that... The standard Square view for everything now is "Poster" with "Summary" off. This can't be changed anywhere for as far as I can see. Perhaps Soultaker can make it an option to choose default view per media folder as is set in the media library. Or maybe this option can be made available in MBC? I have faith you will figure it out. ebr 14903
After thinking about this I think there is a way we could do this that would align all display prefs for generic folders at the same hierarchy "level" within each parent folder. However, since display preference identification is handled by the server, it should be done in the server but I would need confirmation from @@Luke that he would be okay with me doing that.
heula 189
I'm still interested in thie possibility to have a choosen view taken over for all subfolders for my photo collection. Is that already possible some how? It seems not when I just tested changing the view of a photo folder and the rest of the subfolders discnot change with it. Thanks.
